WIN 41-22
The mighty South Sydney Rabbitohs have claimed a deserving victory over the New Zealand Warriors defeating the home team 41-22 at Mount Smart Stadium tonight (Saturday). The Rabbitohs showed their disicpline and determination from the start in their first encounter with the Warriors this season, scoring a huge six converted tries and a 100% first half completion rate (88% overall). The Warriors were the first to add points to the scoreboard when momentum got Solomone Kata over the line. Shaun Johnson converted leaving Souths behind six points to nil. The Rabbitohs were quick to respond when Adam Reynolds kicked a grubber that bounced through the legs of Kyle Turner and into the arms of Alex Johnston who placed the ball down over the try line. Reynolds slotted the ball through the uprights to level the score 6-all. In the 18th minute, Reynolds once again showed us the power of his right boot finding a gap to the left of the posts where Rabbitohs centre, Aaron Gray, picked up the grubber and went over the line. Another successful conversion extended Souths' lead to 12 points to six. The Rabbitohs were dominating the New Zealand side and a well-practiced back line play between Greg Inglis, Gray and Joe Burgess saw the winger dive into the far left hand corner and score his first try in the Red and Green. It didn’t take long for Burgess to add his second try for the Rabbitohs and for Reynolds to show us the power of his opposite kicking boot when another well-weighted left-foot grubber assisted Burgess over the line. In a similar circumstance of what had just occurred, Reynolds nailed the conversion and the Rabbitohs led 24 points to six. With two minutes left until half time, and with the recent results of golden point looming in the NRL, Reynolds opted for and successfully kicked a field goal adding another point to their comfortable lead. With the timer counting down the seconds until half time, another brilliant back line manoeuvre between Cody Walker and John Sutton saw Greg Inglis fly through the Warriors' defence and sum up the mighty Rabbitohs' first half performance by adding another four-pointer to the scoreboard backed by a successful Reynolds conversion. The Rabbitohs went into the sheds with an amazing 100% completion rate (16/16) and ahead of the Warriors 31 points to six. In the second half, the Warriors opened the scoring when Kata mirrored his round 22 performance adding his second try for the night. But the Rabbitohs wouldn’t let the Warriors catch them and it was Hymel Hunt who picked up a loose ball and ran an impressive 90 metres to score Souths' sixth try. Damien Cook added an extra two points with a successful kick at goal. The Warriors kept their composure and in the 56th minute scored their third try through winger Manu Vatuvei. But the Rabbitohs held on to their strong defence and through another two penalties, Damien Cook added four more points to the leaders. The Warriors added another converted try in the 77th minute however they couldn’t catch the Rabbitohs who celebrated their well-deserved 41-22 win.

U20 National Youth Holden Cup - Round 23
v Warriors, Sat Aug 13 5:15pm
WIN 30-20
Late Changes - 1-17. Hiamona Hiroti has dropped off the bench.
The NYC Rabbitohs pulled off a thrilling comeback victory against the New Zealand Warriors youth side at Mt Smart Stadium for their Round 23 clash of the Holden Cup. In a game that saw both teams trade blows and hold periods of dominance Souths managed to claw back an eight point deficit to end up winning the contest 30-20 on away soil. Marwene Hiroti got things underway at Mt Smart Stadium for the clash as the New Zealand Warriors started with the ball. Staunch defence from Souths in the first set forced an error as a loose carry by the Warriors saw them knock on. The Rabbitohs almost made them pay immediately as Francis Laloua Tui found his way over the try line on our last tackle only to be held up by a scrambling Warriors effort. Several sets later the Warriors again put themselves under pressure through a knock on and the Rabbitohs were able to make their way to the try line only to be held up again. A stripping penalty from Kenese Kenese added to the Warriors woes after their opening set was plagued by handling errors. The ensuring movement set the Rabbitohs free on the left edge but a wayward pass from Campbell Graham handed the ball back to the Warriors. A rampaging Brock Gray run saw the Rabbitohs positioning within 10 metres of the Warriors try line in the 16th minute. An offload from Marwene Hiroti proved the breakthrough as he set up Maia Sands for the Rabbitohs' opening try. Chad O’Donnell successfully converted to push the Rabbitohs to a 6-0 lead. The Warriors' response was immediate as they stepped up the intensity to force a goal line drop out in the 21st minute. Souths couldn’t hold the line as Kane Telea found a gap and scored under the posts. He converted his own try. The young Warriors were buoyed by their breakthrough and put more pressure on the Rabbitohs forcing an error in a hard tackle which got the Warriors within striking distance. Melino Fineanganofo found himself first to a Warriors attacking grubber and added the next try of the game in the 28th minute. Kane Telea converted to make the score 12-6 in favour of the home side. Souths found themselves on the back foot shortly after kick off but a high shot from Kenese took the Rabbitohs up field before Harry Leddy mishandled as we looked to attack the Warriors line. A Warriors break almost ensued but an interference from Cordtz resulted in a penalty for the home side. The Warriors were close to capitalising soon after but a double movement from Chris Sio robbed the Warriors of a chance to extend their lead in the 33rd minute. Harry Leddy put himself back in the good books as he grubbered and regathered after the ball took a knock from a Warriors defender and streaked away to score. O’Donnell converted to equal the scores just before half time. It was a back and forth affair for the first half with Souths looking to snag points before the half but the Warriors struck back and following a high shot opted to kick for two points to take the score to 14-12 after the siren. The second half started where it left off as Tom Perrin made a huge run down the left edge to put the Rabbitohs into a good scoring opportunity. However, Souths couldn’t capitalise as their attacking bomb ran dead. The Warriors responded in equal measure making their way up field and forcing a goal line drop out. A dangerous attacking move was met by a good defensive effort from Souths and the Warriors were held up as they made their way into our try area. The next twenty minutes was a stalemate as both teams pushed hard at each other. Warriors five-eighth, Eiden Ackland, was assisted from the field after an accidental clash with Josh Saunders. Both teams had chances to take the lead but the breakthrough would come in the 61st minute as Sheldon Pitama, hooker and captain of the young Warriors, scored from a dummy-half run from two metres out. Telea converted to push the Warriors to an eight point lead at 20-12. Brock Gray stepped up and made a huge run, barging past several Warriors defenders, to score under the posts and pull the Rabbitohs back into the match. O’Donnell converted easily from in front of the posts. Souths continued to scramble to regain the lead and saw themselves nearing the Warriors' line. A penalty against the Warriors gave Souths the opportunity to equalise which they promptly did through the boot of Chad O’Donnell. Entering the 70th minute the scores levelled at 20-20. Souths continued their resurgence and managed to take the lead through Marwene Hiroti after he found a gap on the right edge from a Harry Leddy cut out pass. The conversion inched just wide and the Rabbitohs found themselves with a four point lead. Tarquinn Butler extended the lead in the last minute of the game as Souths put their side in a comfortable position to see out the game with the win. O’Donnell converted from in front and the score became 30-20. With the clock winding down Souths only needed to hold the ball from the kick off to claim the two points in an exciting clash with the New Zealand Warriors.
Beau Cordtz has taken the early guilty plea on a grade two tripping charge resulting from our Holden Cup clash with the Warriors. Cordtz receives 131 points for the early guilty plea and will miss next week’s Holden Cup match against the Sharks.

Reserve Grade - Intrust Super NSW Premiership Round 22
v Illawarra, North Sydney Oval, Sun Aug 13 3:00pm
LOSS 6-42
Late Changes - Robinson, Houghton are out. Schaumkel starts fullback, Miski on the wing. Tyrrell prop, Mauala and Siejka on the bench.
The Illawarra Cutters have maintained their Top Four position in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW with an easy 42-6 disposal of a poor North Sydney Bears at North Sydney Oval this afternoon. The Cutters won the match in a dominant first half where they blitzed the Bears with a clinical display in attack in setting up a commanding 28-nil half time lead. Things got off to a poor start for the Bears in just the third minute when fullback Latrell Schaumkel slipped when fielding a high mid field bomb. Cutters half Drew Hutchinson picked up the bouncing ball and sent Irish international Tyrone McCarthy away to score the first try next to the posts. Levi Dodd converted and the Cutters led 6-nil. Hutchinson then scored close to the uprights from a superb Shannon Wakeman offload in a Bears two man tackle five minutes later to double the Cutters lead to 12-nil with Dodd’s simple conversion. A terrible mix up between Schaumkel and centre Sifa Talakai from a Hutchinson grubber kick in the 18th minute saw Cutters half Josh McCrone pick up the loose ball to score the simplest of tries. Dodd again converted and the Cutters were up with the clock at 18-nil. By this stage, the Bears were shell-shocked by the ease of which the Cutters forwards were laying a platform through the middle. This was typified by Wakeman powering through three insipid Bears tackles after taking a pass from a penalty tap inside the Bears’ defensive 20 metre area in the 22nd minute to score. Dodd landed another simple conversion and Illawarra led 24-nil. A superbly placed cross field kick from Hutchinson in the 28th minute bounced up beautifully for winger Mitch Porter to score to blow out the Cutters’ lead to 28-nil. Norths finally had some football at the end of the first half to play with, but were ineffective in attack and made no impression on the Cutters’ lead before the half time break. After a flat start to the second half, Cutters winger Kalifa Faifailoa finished off a right side overlap 10 minutes into the second half to rule out a Bears miracle comeback at 32-nil. The match then degenerated into a scrappy affair in the second half as the Cutters were easily able to defend the disjointed attack that the Bears offered up to them. After a long break from Faifailoa in the 68th minute saw Bears interchange back Cameron Murray sin binned by referee Jon Stone for a professional foul after making the cover defensive tackle, Porter burst through some more inept Bears defence from the penalty to score his second try under the posts. Shaun Nona converted to extend the Illawarra lead out to 38-nil. The Bears saved a total shut out with three minutes to play when Murray returned from the sin bin to follow up an Eli Levido grubber in behind the Cutters defence to score Norths’ only try. Levido converted from near touch to have the Bears on the board at 38-6. As the full time siren sounded, a Levido chip kick from the last tackle of the match was brilliantly caught by Dodd, who raced 65 metres to score the last try of the match and close out the emphatic 42-6 win.
