Munro 2026-27 Contract Extension

17th February 2025

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are delighted to announce the contract extension of outside back Tyrone Munro until the end of the 2027 season today.

Munro, 20, a proud Gomeroi man who is a Botany Rams junior, has played seven NRL games since making his NRL debut for the Rabbitohs against the Warriors in round 18 of the 2023 season, scoring six tries so far in his career. Munro made his representative debut this year when he played in his first Indigenous All Stars side. Munro, who won the 2024 Provan-Summons Medal for displaying the true spirit of the game through his actions and conduct on-field, played a key role in the Rabbitohs’ NRL State Championship and NSW Cup premierships in 2023, claiming the man-of-the-match award in the NRL State Championship match, and is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in the NRL.

Rabbitohs Head of Recruitment, Mark Ellison, says Munro has a big future ahead of him at South Sydney. "For such a young man, Tyrone has shown us that he has the mental strength and emotional fortitude to forge a long career in the NRL with the Rabbitohs," Mr Ellison said. "He also has the ability to play the game at its highest levels and we are looking forward to working with him to progress his game to reach those heights. We’re delighted to have re-signed 'Ty Ty' for the long-term and we can’t wait to see him out on the field for us throughout the 2025 season and beyond."

Munro is delighted to have extended his tenure with the Rabbitohs. "This is a dream come true for me. I love this Club with all my heart," Munro said. "I want to thank my brothers here at the Rabbitohs for their support for me and my family, especially through some very difficult times. I appreciate them every single day. I also want to thank the coaches, the training staff and the administration staff for everything they do for us. I also want to thank our Members and fans. You guys are who we play for and why we do what we do, and I can’t wait to get back out there and represent you all on the field. This is a special club and I feel very privileged to be part of it."
