Western Suburbs District Rugby League Club Formed

4th February 1908

A growing unrest among players in the second grade club of Ashfield Rugby Club led to a meeting at Ashfield Town Hall on the 4th of February to form Western Suburbs Rugby League Club. Alderman J.A. Woolbridge, who chaired the meeting, stated that "the Ashfield clubs and the clubs in the Western Suburbs had never been given a chance to prove that they were capable of entering the higher grades of football". Western Suburbs Rugby union players did not initially come across and the team was formed mainly from the second grade Ashfield Rugby club.

As a result, the Western Suburbs rugby league club chose the black and white colours of Ashfield rather than play in the bottle green colours of their rugby district club.

And the rivalry with Western Suburbs began
