WIN 19-2
Played on the Agricultural Ground, before an attendance estimated at 2000. Conlin, Burge and Spence had not recovered from the effects of the Newtown match, and did not take the field for South Sydney. It was unseasonable weather for football, and the half time whistle was a very welcome respite to both sides. Annandale played four brothers, Roy, Rex, Ray, and Bernard Norman. South Sydney relied on the old brigade, and it was not to be expected that their lighter opponents would extend them to any great extent. Mr L.Kearney, had charge of the game. South Sydney kicked off, Ananndale defending the Paddington end. Play was in mid-field for a few minutes until Anderson secured the ball and brought it into Annandale's 25. A free kick gave the latter some relief, and there was, a lot of scrum work, in which South Sydney invariably secured the ball but execrable passing spoilt many chances. South Sydney were penalised. Hedley's kick went wide. South then put in some fine work. Butler secured in his own 25, wriggled through a bunch of Annandale forwards and then sent a long pass to Cann, who ran straight ahead and gavie it to Hallett, who passed to Hucker in a dash for Ananndale territory, who in turn sent a pass infield only to see Hedley relieve. So far there was little to choose between the teams. South Sydney, however, were the first to score, a combined rush Fry started, passing to Rosewell to Darmody who made the opening for Cann bringing the ball to the Annandale line, where Cann ran in and scored. Davis failed at goal. Annandale got moving and play raged round the South Sydney line for some time. Bryant put in a great run just before the interval, but there was no one to back him up. For a breach of rules South Sydney were penalised, Ray Norman taking the kick and landing a beautiful goal. South Sydney 3 Annandale, 2 (Half-time)
On resuming, Annandale were surprisingly nippy, and kept play, in South's territory. Cann was cautioned, and then Annandale were twice called upon to save on the line. The red and green set out for the line, and in front of goal Butler sent to McCabe, to Fry, who knocked on. McCabe started them again by passing it to Hallett, who was held up on the line. The Premiers were bent on scoring, and play veered to the wing, where Fry sent it to Anderson, who forced into touch-in-goal. Butler failed at goal from a penalty kick. At last McCabe snapped up a kick from rex Norman from a scrum, in a fine position, and was through in a twinkling. Davis added the extra points. Annandale secured a "free," and Hedley's kick struck the bar, the ball rebounding into play. Lyons and B.Norman started Annandale again, but a forward got off-side and a moment later the mistake was repeated. Again they got to South Sydney's line and Rex Norman passed to his brother Bernard, who dived, but lost the leather when over the line. Fry and Cann by short passing ran it to Annandale's line and Hennessy accepted the last transfer and scored. Davis failed at goal. Lyons and Gray dribbled goalwards, but Cann and Rosewell worked out. Cann again picked up and gave it to McCabe who ran in and scored. Cann converted. McCabe was in again a few minutes later. The forwards kicked to him near halfway and he picked up and set out, chased by Roy Norman, but got across and scored. No goal. The final scores reading South Sydney 19 Annandale 2.
