WIN 22-2
The teams met at Wentworth Park. The attendance numbered about 1500. Referee, Mr A.Ballerum. Glebe won the toss, and took the field with a fair breeze in their favour. Davis kicked off for South, and open play followed until McCabe intercepted, and put in a good run. A penalty was given to South in front of Glebe's goal-posts, and Davis dropped the ball over South Sydney, 2 Glebe, nil. A passing rush by Glebe looked promising, but ended without a score Algie marked, but nothing came of Spratt's kick at goal. Presently McCabe secured, and passed to Anderson, who was sent out near the corner. From a free glvin to South in front of Glebe's goal-posts South again scored South Sydney, 4 Glebe, nil. Wright endeavoured to pass to Muggivan, but McCabe intercepted well within his own side of the centre line, and, running up, transferred to Hallet who scored. Davis converted, mai ing South's score 9 to nil. Even play continued until half time.
Splatt set the ball in motion after the interval, and Glebe pressed, causing South to force. From a loose in front of the goal-line M'Cabe secured, and sent to Leveson, to Hucker, who scored. This was converted, making Souths 14 to nil. Glebe then scored, McKivatt marked and Splatt kicked the goal. South, 14, Glebe, 2. On two occasions Glebe just failed to add extra points. Another good effort by Glebe, in which Muggivan chiefly figured, was followed by an attack by South on Glebe's goal, and in play in front of Glebe's line Butler obtained possession, passed to McCabe, to Davis, on to Anderson, the latter scoring. It was unconverted. South Sydney, 17, Glebe, 2. A brilliant individual effort was made by Hucker, who secured and cleverly, beating all opposition, ran round and placed the ball between the posts. Davis added the goal points. South Sydney, 22, Glebe 2. Full-time.
