WIN 25-5
At the Sports Ground, South Sydney and North Sydney played the late match before about 5000 people. A really brilliant display by South Sydney, back and forward, gave them victory by this big margin. It was a treat of superb football for a delighted crowd. North Sydney kicked off, and Morton at once put the Shoremen in a good position, finding the line at the corner with a splendid kick. Leveson cleared, but Morton repeated his effort, and the Southerners had a torrid time defending, until McCabe picked up and started Hallett and Stuntz in the 25. Worked out to half-way, McCabe, Leveson, and Conlin were almost over the North Shore line, but O.Clutton obtained, and booted out. South Sydney returned, H. Butler and Nicholls exchanging passes, but the latter was grassed in the nick of time. Again the Red and Green moved goalwards, but a good defence kept them at bay. Morton saved his side by splendidly finding the line 30 yards out. The Red and Green had determined to score, and a brilliant burst by Gilbert put Cann in a good position. He passed to Spence, who sent it on to McCabe, who clinched a good combined effort with a try. Gilbert kicked the goal. South Sydney, 5 to nil. Short passes between Berecry, E.Anderson, and Ferguson put the Shoremen on the attack, but the effort was short lived, as Hallett secured in his own 25, and put Gilbert in good position before sending it on. At the North Sydney 25 the latter passed infield to Spence, who scored near the posts. O.Brown kicked the goal. South Sydney, 10 to nil. Coming again, Cann, Gilbert, Hallett, Conlin, and McCabe executed a dazzling passing bout, which ended at the corner flag. Worked across goal, McFarlane whipped it to Anderson and on to Berecry, and South Sydney were soon busy defending. Penalised on the line, South Sydney cleared, and, short passing between backs and forwards ensued until Morton stopped Stuntz at the 25 flag. South Sydney were handling and running in perfect style, and now passes were exchanged in bewildering fashion, but the Shoremen stuck to them, and defended well. Hallett again picked up in the loose and started goalwards. Tackled, he sent it to Gilbert, on to Cann. fast as the wind they hummed along. It went to Conlin, to Cann again, then Berecry tackled the latter, but he struggled over the line and scored. Leveson kicked the goal. South Sydney, 15 to nil. Half time.
Resuming, Bercery and Ferguson set North Sydney going goalwards, and South Sydney were penalised on the 25 line. Morton landed a good goal. South Sydney, 15 to 2. The Shoremen maintained the attack for some time, Deane, Clutton, and Davis putting in excellent work. But the South defence was too solid. The latter soon came again, and Stuntz was forced out at the 25 flag. Clutton, Anderson, and Sullivan, doing good work in defence, staved the Red and Green off for a while. Conlin broke away on the left wing, and was tackled on the line. He centred in front of goal, and a scramble ensued, from which Hennessy emerged and scored a try. Nicholls added the goal. South Sydney, 20 to 2. Ferguson now started Clutton, who made ground and sent it to Maher, to Anderson, who fell over in the ' arms of a South Sydney forward and scored. Clutton failed to goal it. South Sydney, 20 to 5. Cann intercepted a pass, and sent on to McCabe, to Butler, who transferred to Nichols, and he scored near the posts. Conlin kicked the goal. South Sydney, 25 to 5.
