Rabbitohs Centenary Season 2008 Launch
9th October 2007
The South Sydney Football Club today launched their campaign for the centenary season in 2008. Rabbitohs Executive Chairman Peter Holmes à Court launched the campaign alongside Chief Executive Officer Shane Richardson, Club board member Nick Pappas and Leagues Club Chairman Bill Alexiou-Hucker at Redfern Town Hall – the birthplace of the Rabbitohs in 1908. “In 2006 the members voted for change, in 2007 we questioned everything, we made improvements everywhere we could and the team created the platform for our future success,” Mr Holmes à Court said. “The Centenary celebrations next season provide a perfect opportunity for our fans to become more involved in the game. As well as the football, there are numerous events for fans to be part of and club members will be in the best position to do that. I would encourage all Souths fans to get behind the club and become members,” Mr Gallop said. AThe Rabbitohs also today announced some of their centenary events for the 100 year anniversary of Rugby League. Significant events include the Official Centenary Formation Re-enactment at Redfern Town Hall on January 17, the Australia Day Challenge against the Leeds Rhinos in Jacksonville Florida, the 25th Charity Shield, the Opening Round of the Centenary Premiership against the Roosters for the Ron Coote Cup, the Round six heritage match against Wests Tigers at the SCG, the March to the Sydney Football Stadium before the Roosters clash in August to re-enact the 1999/2000 re-instatement marches and the Return to Redfern Street Festival in September.
