Telstra Stadium renamed ANZ Stadium

12th December 2007

The Rabbitohs home ground Telstra Stadium will be renamed ANZ Stadium next year after a new naming rights sponsorship was announced today.

The deal is for a $4.5 million annual sponsorship agreement totalling $31.5 million over seven years. Stadium Australia, which hosted the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, will be known as ANZ Stadium from January 2008.

Rabbitohs Membership Ambassador Mario Fenech, former Wallabies captain John Eales, Socceroo John Aloisi, Tigers fullback Brett Hodgson, Swans ruckman Peter Everitt, Bulldogs chief executive Malcolm Noad, Stadium chief executive Ken Edwards and ANZ chief executive Mike Smith were in attendance as the new deal was announced.

Mr Edwards said of the new arrangement: "it's the partnerships with clubs and the governing bodies that we want to help make the great things happen. A big part of the game is membership and we believe the NRL can grow membership the way the AFL has. Mario Fenech told me the Rabbitohs had just over 3000 season ticket holders last year and they?ve already hit 4000 season ticket holders for next season before Christmas which is a great result."

South Sydney will play their first home game at ANZ Stadium in round one to kick-off the NRL's Centenary Season against arch rivals the Roosters on Friday March 14 at 7.30pm. The following week they meet the Bulldogs in round two at ANZ Stadium on Good Friday March 21 at 7.30pm.
