2008 NRL Premiership - Round 3 Teams

South Sydney v Penrith

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce their teams for round 3 of the 2008 NRL Premiership against the Penrith at the Penrith Stadium this Sunday 30th March, with the NRL fixture scheduled to kick off at 2:00pm.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs will wear the "home" red, green and white jersey and white shorts this Sunday against the Penrith Panthers at 2pm at CUA Stadium as required by the rules set by the NRL. The Club wanted to inform the Members and fans of this situation ahead of the game to reduce confusion for game attendees and TV viewers when the team runs out. The explanation in detail from the NRL is below:

  • The NRL does not operate on a system of home and away playing strips.
  • The NRL rules require all Clubs to have two playing strips in contrasting colours.
  • In all cases the home team is entitled to wear the playing strip of their choice.
  • The visiting team may apply to wear either of their playing strips but where the NRL considers the selection of the visiting team does not sufficiently contrast with the selection of the home team the NRL can direct the visiting team to wear their alternate strip.
  • In this case the Panthers have elected to wear their predominantly black playing strip.
  • The Souths red, green, and black strip includes black side panels and black shorts which in the NRL?s view does not sufficiently contrast with the Panthers black jersey and black shorts.
  • Alternatively, the Souths red, green, and white strip includes white side panels and white shorts which maximises the contrast with the Panthers black jersey and shorts.
  • The same condition applies in finals matches where the NRL will decide which strip the competing teams will wear in order to maximise the contrast between the teams.
  • The use of the black rabbit strip for the Panthers home game last year demonstrated to the NRL the strips were not of sufficient contrast.
