The match was played at a pretty fast pace. Wentworthville took a 6-nil lead when their prop Broderick Wright scored. Norths levelled 14 minutes in after Ben Rogers chipped and regathered and put Greg Nichols on his way to score and then convert. The Bears then withstood quite a bit of pressure on our own line. We were in an attacking position again with 17 minutes left in the half when a loose pass was thrown on the last tackle, Mitch Williams picked up the ball and chipped over the defence, and somehow managed to get the ball and pass out to Yileen Gordon who scored. Nichols converted. With 11 minutes left Wenty kicked into the corner and the ball came loose allowing a try and up to 12-all. Wenty took an 18-12 lead going into halftime when Justin Horo barged over. There was no score until halfway through the second half when Luke Grant through a nice pass to Jaiman Lowe who managed to break through to score. Nichols conversion locked the score at 18-all. Norths had a mountain of possession but couldn't break through again. Wenty were putting some pressure on the Bears as well, and forced a line-drop out with 5-minutes to go, Norths kicked it out on the full giving Wenty a penalty in front for them to take a 20-18 lead. Norths had the majority of possession for the remaining minutes but didn't really look like scoring until Charlie Herekotukutuku put in a grubber into the right corner with 3 seconds remaining. Two Wenty players fell over in their attempts to get the ball and Nathanael Barnes scored to win the Bears the match. Greg Nichols converted to put the icing on the cake.
