Reserve Grade - NSW Cup - Round 19
v Windsor, North Sydney Oval, Sat Aug 16 2:30pm
WIN 40-38
In a game no one would have believed unless you were at the ground to see it with your own eyes. It was the most remarkable comeback ever witnessed. When Windsor scored in the first set of 6 of the game, it was going to be a tough afternoon. The Bears preparation was thrown into turmoil with late withdrawals through injury, players such as Luke Grant, Ryan Verlinden, John Koborsi, Shaune Corrigan all expected to play but withdrew for one reason or another. Then there was the 'unavailability' of Widders and Vagana and we were down to a skeleton crew. As Windsor raced in try after try and hit 34 nil after 25 minutes, the players that had been late inclusions into the side, had been thrown to the wolves. However, something started to slowly emerge as the game wore on and the big Windsor forwards became complacent - spirit! A couple of tries before half time kept the Bears in the game at 34-12, and the message from the coach must have worked. As the scoreline got closer and closer there came a point where team management were happy to get some positives out of the game, however was resigned to losing the game. Different story for the players, who started to get the rub of the green and slowly narrowed the gap. All of a sudden the Bears couldn't put a foot wrong and the more we gained momentum the uglier it got for the Wolves. It was if the scales of justice weighed more and more in our favour and the easier it got for the Bears the harder it got for the opposition. Fans couldn't believe it when the Bears managed to tie up the scores with 10 minutes to go, and was further astounded when they went to the lead 40 - 34. In true North Sydney style they did give Windsor one last chance to redeem a draw, however the kick from the side line on the bell hit the post The Bears had found their mojo and deposited a huge amount of self belief back into team as they hung on to win 40 to 38.
