Crocker Signs for 2009-12
8th May 2009
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced the signing of International Michael Crocker until the end of the 2012 season. Crocker is signing a 3½ year contract today, joining the Rabbitohs squad immediately. He will be available for selection to play against the Wests Tigers next weekend. Crocker, 28, brings a wealth of experience to the Rabbitohs pack, having played in ten State of Origin matches for Queensland, six Tests for Australia, and almost 150 NRL games including five grand final appearances for two premiership victories. Crocker is widely regarded as one of the toughest and competitive players in Rugby League, with Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson saying Crocker will be a valuable asset to the Club. “Michael Crocker is a winner and will add starch to our already-strong forward pack,” Mr Richardson said. “Michael has been training at NRL level since the season finished last year, so he will be fit and available to play next weekend. “We’re looking forward to seeing Michael in the red and green and I know our Members are as well. He will complement our other players with international experience such as Roy Asotasi, Issac Luke, Craig Wing, David Fa’alogo and David Kidwell with his tough, uncompromising style of play. “To pick up a player of his ability and experience at this time of year is wonderful and we welcome Michael Crocker to our Club.” Crocker says he is pleased to be able to start playing Rugby League again with the South Sydney Rabbitohs. “I am really happy to have my future sorted out. It has been a long drawn out process and I am looking forward to getting back into a routine and also back onto the field,” Crocker said. ”The Rabbitohs are a club with a proud history and an exciting future. This squad is definitely a title contender. I am looking forward to playing alongside them and learning from Jason Taylor and Gorden Tallis.” Rabbitohs Head Coach Jason Taylor is looking forward to seeing Crocker in action next week. “Michael will begin training with us on Monday and we’re looking forward to including him in our squad,” Taylor said. “Everyone knows what kind of player he is and it’s his aggression and skill that we are most pleased about having in our side. “I’m excited that we are able to add another representative forward to our pack for this season and we welcome Michael on board.”
