NYC Toyota Cup Team of the Year
1st September 2009
South Sydney Rabbitohs young guns Malcolm Webster and Junior Vaivai have been selected in the 2009 Toyota Cup Team of the Year. The team, which was announced at NRL Headquarters in Sydney today and is voted on by the 16 coaches in the competition, saw Webster honoured with the number one fullback jersey, and Vaivai being selected in the centres. Both players have had outstanding seasons so far. Vaivai, who made his first grade debut against the Sea Eagles three weeks ago, has made 20 appearances for the under 20s this year, racking up 146 points from 20 tries and 33 goals. He is one of the top point scorers in the competition, sits in second position on the try scorers list behind his left winger Kane Morgan, and leads the line breaks in the competition with 26 for the year to date. Webster, in his second year of Toyota Cup football, has played in 21 of the Rabbitohs’ games this year scoring 56 points from 13 tries and two goals. Mal sits in second position for the most number of line breaks in 2009 with 22, four behind Vaivai. He was also leading the Toyota Cup Player of the Year count when voting went behind closed doors. Congratulations to both Malcolm and Junior on their selection in the 2009 Toyota Cup Team of the Year.
