The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce their team to take on the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in the Return to Redfern Members Only trial match this Sunday 7 February at the Australian Technology Park Performance Centre at Redfern Oval. Rabbitohs Head Coach John Lang has named a 26-man squad for his team’s first assignment of the 2010 season. New recruits Sam Burgess and David Taylor have been named in the starting line up for Sunday’s clash, with the 26-man squad comprising nine of the Rabbitohs’ full time squad members, ten Toyota Cup players and seven North Sydney Bears players. The Rabbitohs side will feature 11 South Sydney juniors, all who will get to play in front of the Club’s Ticketed Members at the spiritual home of the Rabbitohs. The Return to Redfern 2010 event will be full of entertainment for the Ticketed Members in attendance, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Club’s 19th premiership, a 23-12 victory over Manly-Warringah in the 1970 Grand Final. 12 of the South Sydney players involved in that winning Grand Final will be presented to the Members, a match that is etched into Rugby League folklore for the heroic performance of captain John Sattler who played a majority of the match with a broken jaw. Also on the agenda is the ‘Greaties from the Eighties’ battle with the ‘All Star Celebrities’ in an entertaining touch football match, as a curtain raiser to the main game. The ‘Greaties from the Eighties’ have played a combined 1440 first grade games in the famous cardinal and myrtle hoops of the Rabbitohs, and the ‘All Star Celebrities’ have a mix of media personalities, elite sportspeople, actors and comedians, throwing in some of the best players to have pulled on a Rugby League jersey. Referee Bill Harrigan will have plenty of work to do during this match, and Members will hear it all with Harrigan wired for sound so they can hear all the action. The main game kicks off at 6pm with the ‘Greaties from the Eighties’ vs ‘All Star Celebrities’ touch football game starting at 4:20pm. Gates open at 4pm.
