LOSS 22-50
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have fallen to the Brisbane Broncos 50 points to 22 at Suncorp Stadium today (Sunday) in front of 30,311 Members and supporters. In what was one of the most entertaining game so of the season in terms of attacking flair from both teams, the Broncos enjoyed 54% of possession and an almost flawless use of the ball, making the most of the opportunities they had. The Rabbitohs played some wonderful attacking football throughout the match but did not capitalise on the opportunities they had as well as the Broncos did. The Rabbitohs' defence also was not up to scratch as has been throughout a majority of the first half of the season. The Broncos scored nine tries to four in what was their best performance of the year to date against a Rabbitohs side missing nine forwards from its top squad. Nathan Merritt scored a double but it was not enough to get the Rabbitohs over the line in Brisbane. The Rabbitohs scored first in the eighth minute when noted try scorer Merritt crossed in the right hand corner. The Rabbitohs swung the ball across the field, with fullback Rhys Wesser chiming into the backline to deliver an excellent off load to put Merritt away. The Broncos struck back four minutes later through Josh Hoffman, and again two minutes later to Jharal Yow Yeh to set up a 10-6 lead after 15 minutes. Ben Te’o scored his first try in the 18th minute and the home side was out in front after 20 minutes of play. The Rabbitohs got back to within six points when Colin Best scored in the 26th minute. The Rabbitohs used the width of the field to create some space in the Broncos’ defensive line, and Best backed himself to get outside his opposite number Matt Gillett to score on the left. Sandow converted to take the score to 16-10. The Broncos piled on two more tries before the half time siren to Hoffman and Te’o, taking the score line to 28-10 at the break. The Rabbitohs only had 46% of the ball in the first half, but an 80% completion rate was keeping them in the game. The Broncos sealed the win in the opening 15 minutes of the second half after tries to Te’o and Gillett. The Rabbitohs struck back in the 61st minute when Ben Lowe crashed over after some nice play from Chris Sandow, with Sandow’s conversion taking the score to 40-16. The Rabbitohs scored again 11 minutes later when Nathan Merritt scored his second, snatching an intercept pass and racing 80 metres to score. Sandow converted to take the score line to 40-22 with less than ten minutes on the clock. The Broncos added two more tries in that final period of play to Gillett and Yow Yeh, racking up 50 points in their best performance of the season. The Rabbitohs looked to spread the ball as often as they could to take advantage of their unchanged backline. The problem for the Rabbitohs was too often the final option or pass would not stick, whereas the Broncos seemed to take advantage of every scoring opportunity that came their way. The Rabbitohs also fell off too many tackles allowing the Broncos to progress up the field too easily and set up their attacking options.

LOSS 18-48
Corrigan and Falloon were a late call ups into FG. Jackson played starting center. Hunt moved up to hooker and Tawha started. Cosgrove was added to the bench. Bears coach Wayne Lambkin was tearing his hair out just minutes into the team’s 48-18 loss to the Newtown Jets in the NSW Cup at Marrickville on Saturday. The Bears failed to kick the ball at the end of their opening set, giving up possession and easy field position to the Jets. A furious Lambkin said the team failed to implement their game plan of completing their sets and kicking for field position. ``It was very disappointing,’’ he said. ``We had a game plan and didn’t stick to it. ``In our first set we actually made good ground into their half but instead of kicking the football we tried to throw it around and that wasn’t what we needed to do to build pressure.’’ After trailing 30-0 at halftime, a more committed Bears outfit took to the field in the second half, led by frontrower Daniel Sayegh, who crashed over for a rare double. Halfback Jarryd Hogan and centre Tuki Jackson scored a try each. Sayegh scored his first try after charging onto a short pass from hooker Brock Molan. He scored his second after an inside pass from five-eighth Eddie Paea. Lambkin said Sayegh had been one of the Bears’ most consistent players this season. ``He’s got a lot of responsibility and he has a big workload, playing long minutes,’’ he said. ``Unfortunately for Daniel, the team isn’t winning football games.’’
