WIN 24-16
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have kept themselves in finals contention with a 24 points to 16 victory over the Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium tonight. 19,098 Members and supporters watched a scoreless first half before the Rabbitohs piled on four tries to three to sit inside the top eight with six matches to play in round 25. Unfortunately for the Eels, the loss signals the end to their 2010 premiership campaign, but for Rabbitohs Members it puts their side in a position to snatch a spot at the bottom end of the eight after 26 rounds. The first half of tonight’s contest was brutal, with both sides dishing out heavy defence with neither side able to cross the stripe for a four-pointer. Rabbitohs prop Sam Burgess was denied a try in the third minute of play when the ball came lose short of the line after spinning out of three tackles, however neither side crossed the opposition’s goal line for the rest of the half. Hooker Issac Luke pulled off a try saving tackle on Jarryd Hayne in the 19th minute, and heavy first half defence from captain Roy Asotasi, returning second rower Dave Taylor, and Burgess left the ears ringing of some of the Eels players. The Rabbitohs started the second half much better than their opponents, with fullback Rhys Wesser crossing for a try in the 44th minute of play. The Rabbitohs earned a repeat set and from about 15 metres out from the line, Wesser drifted across field, dummied, then straightened up to slice through and score. Halfback Chris Sandow converted to give the Rabbitohs a six-point advantage. Issac Luke was denied a try by the video referee in the 47th minute after he was held up over the line early in the tackle count, but from the ensuing play interchange front rower Jaiman crashed over under the posts, and with the conversion the Rabbitohs extended their lead to 12. The Eels struck back in the 54th minute when Justin Horo hit a hole and scored, and Luke Burt’s conversion reduced the home side’s lead to six. Sandow stretched that lead to eight with a 57th minute penalty goal from 35 metres out in front of the sticks, and the Rabbitohs were full of confidence. From the ensuing kick off, the Eels kicked out on the full, and on that set of six, Issac Luke charged 30 metres to slice through the Eels’ left side defence to score. There was plenty of feeling in the match, with Lowe and Feleti Mateo coming to blows with 20 minutes left on the clock. Mateo appeared to throw the first punch and was placed on report. Big Dave Taylor was damaging down the left hand side for the Rabbitohs but it was a piece of play that you would expect from a 90kg fullback or winger, not a 120kg forward, that gave Taylor his four-pointer in the 69th minute. Sandow put up a bomb and Taylor followed through. He out-jumped fullback Hayne to snatch the ball, and carried two defenders over the line on a 10 metre charge to touch down under the black dot. Sandow’s conversion gave the Rabbitohs an unassailable 18-point lead with ten minutes left on the clock. Parramatta had not given up though, laying on a try in the 73rd minute to Krisnan Inu to give their fans a sniff. A 75th minute ‘no try’ ruling on Kris Keating two minutes later hurt the Eels. The South Sydney spirit shone through in the 77th minute when halfback Sandow put a big hit on prop forward and Eels co-captain Nathan Cayless, showing the Rabbitohs were going to fight to the very end. Mateo scored a consolation in the final minute to reduce the lead to eight, but it was enough for the Rabbitohs to keep their finals hopes alive and to finish off the Eels for season 2010. Rabbitohs Head Coach was calm in the post match press conference, saying his team still has a lot of work to do. “All we could do was come here and win tonight, and we did that, so that will suffice for tonight,” Lang said. “I thought we defended really well (in the first half), we got off our line, got in their face, which I thought we had to do. It’s been a bit of a problem we’ve had throughout the year, we tend to sit back and try and read what they’re going to do instead of getting up and putting pressure on them so I think we did that a lot better. “I just felt that the points would come if we upped the ante a little bit and keep defending well and it worked out that way.” When asked about next week’s clash with the Dragons, Lang was succinct with his summation of the situation. “Every game’s a new game,” Lang said. “It would great to go down there and be playing for a spot in the finals but that’s out of our control.” Captain Roy Asotasi said: “We’ve just got to concentrate on the Dragons and win, and apart from that we just have to sit back and wait. “I don’t even know what the stats are, what we need to get in. “All I know is that we’ve just got to win against the Dragons. That’s all we can control.” Coach Lang added: “We are the last game of the season so we will know where we stand, so we’ll just have to sit back and wait. Some guys might watch it (the Raiders’ round 25 match with the Cowboys), some might not. I don’t think I’ll torture myself.”

WIN 34-28
Team was 1-17. In the Toyota Cup, the South Sydney Rabbitohs maintained top spot on the ladder with a 34 points to 28 victory over the Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium. The Rabbitohs blew the Eels away in the first half, leading 28-4 at the break. Three second half tries to Eels second rower Jacob Loko led a comeback for the Eels, but it wasn’t enough to run down the top-of-the-table Rabbitohs on home soil.

LOSS 22-41
Talanoa, Hunt, Sayegh and Kaifoto didn't play, with Kennedy Pettyborne starting at wing, Molan at hooker and Tuki Jackson also coming into the starting side. I imagine that Apps may have moved into the backrow and Jackson played centres The Bears have lost out to the Cronulla Sharks 41-22 at Toyota Park on Saturday. In the first half the Bears had as many if not more chances to score than their opponents but could not turn it in to points until the 25th minute. From fullback Andre Itula scored an intercept try right of the posts for a 12-4 score line. At the 39th minutes centre Deon Apps scored the second which was converted by halfback Jarryd Hogan. The Bears then finished the half on the attack. Halftime score 22-10. A young Kennedy Pettybourne from Souths under 20s score 2 tries in the second half. The first after a good kick in to touch saw him burrow under the tackle to score to make it 41-14. The second was great touch down try from the high ball, 41-18 Norths second rower Zeb Tawha grabbed the final points for the Bears right on the Bell burrowing under the tackle to score. The final result 41-22.
