The South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced that Star City will be the Club’s major HOME corporate partner in a new three-year deal. The major corporate partnership agreement will see the Star City logo appear on the front of the Rabbitohs home jersey, as both organisations work towards being major players in rugby league and entertainment. Star City is currently undergoing an $860 million redevelopment aimed at transforming the harbourside location into a total entertainment destination. Plans include a 4,000 capacity events centre which can readily convert to a 1,500 seat banquet setting. Combined with a refurbished Lyric Theatre, this will allow Sydney to attract top acts and theatrical productions from around the world. Leading chefs from Australia and overseas, including the highly respected David Chang from New York, have been signed up to open several new restaurants. Most of these restaurants and a new nightclub will overlook the harbour through the signature glass façade along Pirrama Road. Star City is also building a new five-star lifestyle hotel which will be Sydney’s first five-star since the 2000 Olympics and will set a new benchmark for luxury accommodation. Star City will join international brands De’Longhi, V8 Supercars and Kenwood as major corporate partners of the Rabbitohs. South Sydney Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson says there are many synergies between the two organisations. “We’re excited about having Star City join the Rabbitohs family as we share the same aspirations about our future,” Mr Richardson said. “The redevelopment plans that we’ve seen will certainly put Star City on the map as a premium entertainment venue for the world’s top acts and leading chefs. “We look at ourselves in a similar way. We have re-invented ourselves over the past five years under Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes à Court’s ownership and we are working towards establishing ourselves as the number one sporting Club in Australia. “We’re leading the way off the field in the NRL and we believe we are on the verge of leading the way on the field too. “We’ve become competitive, but with the help of Star City, our other major corporate partners in De’Longhi, V8 Supercars and Kenwood, as well as our Members, we are well on our way to taking the next step to becoming dominant. “We welcome Star City into our Rabbitohs family and it is sure to be an exciting three years ahead for both organisations.” Tabcorp Casinos CEO Larry Mullin said the sponsorship arrangement came at a time of significant change for both the Rabbitohs and Star City. “Just as South Sydney is building a team that will ensure they are a major force in the NRL, we believe the transformation underway at Star City will create an engaging venue with destination dining and nightlife that Sydney will be proud of,” Mr Mullin said. “Star City and the Rabbitohs both have ambitions to be the best and we look forward to a productive and successful relationship over the years ahead.”
