The South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced that the Club will have five captains throughout the 2012 season. Michael Crocker, Roy Asotasi, Sam Burgess, Matt King and John Sutton will lead the Club this year as part of a leadership group which is charged with captaining the side week-in and week-out. The announcement was made in the lead up to kick off at tonight's Return to Redfern international trial match between the Rabbitohs and the Warrington Wolves. Head Coach Michael Maguire considered the leadership options amongst the playing group and consulted with the Rabbitohs’ players on who should lead the Club in 2012. The leadership group captaincy model was agreed upon by the players and staff of the Rabbitohs, with these five players being chosen as captains for 2012. “One of these players will be appointed each game to toss the coin and speak with the referees, but on every other aspect of the team we operate as an entire group with these five players making up our captaincy,” Coach Maguire said. “It’s a strong leadership model that everyone has bought into at the Club. I’ve experienced it at Wigan, and I’ve seen it work successfully at other Clubs and in other sports as well. “We’re confident that these five players will provide the leadership we need to operate as a team, and to continue our efforts to improve in everything we do.”
