WIN 40-24
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have secured their first competition points of the season with a 40 points to 24 victory over the Penrith Panthers at Centrebet Stadium today (Sunday) in front of 13,876 Members and supporters. The Rabbitohs ran in six tries to four over the men from the foot of the mountains, collecting their first two points for the season. Second rower Dave Taylor scored a double and rookie winger Andrew Everingham touched with his first touch in first grade in a memorable afternoon for Rabbitohs Members and fans alike. The game started in perfect fashion for South Sydney with Panthers five-eighth Travis Burns knocking the ball on from the kick off. With sensational field position, captain Matt King picked up a loose ball, drew the defence and popped a special flick pass to Everingham who scored in the right hand corner. Adam Reynolds converted to take the scores to six-nil after just three minutes of play. In only the sixth minute of play the Rabbitohs had scored again, this time through a rampaging Roy Asotasi. 'Razza' handled in the scoring play, with hooker Issac Luke putting Asotasi in some space then passing to John Sutton who got the ball back to Asotasi to charge over and score his side's second try. Reynolds converted taking the scores to 12-nil in favour of the Rabbitohs after just seven minutes. The Rabbitohs were switched on and were hitting very hard in defence. Their attack looked slick and Greg Inglis was chiming in from fullback regularly, causing all sorts of problems for the Panthers' defensive line despite facing a pink-jerseyed wall when returning the ball. The Rabbitohs scored again in the 13th minute of play through Taylor, who scooped the ball up from dummy half, grabber kicked across field into the in-goal, and then dived on his own kick to score. He out-paced penrith speedsters Lachlan Coote and Travis Burns for the four-pointer. Reynolds converted to extend the lead to 18. The Rabbitohs completed dominated the first 20 minutes, but the intensity in their game seemed to drop around that 20 minute mark and it gave the Panthers an opportunity to post points. Kevin Kingston scored their first after some nice interplay around the ruck in the 23rd minute. Nine minutes later and it was Burns scoring after stepping twice to get through the red and green defence to cross the stripe. Walsh converted both tries t bring the home side within six points. Some ill-discipline then crept into the Panthers' game giving Reynolds not one, but two, chances to kick penalty goals in the dying minutes of the first half, allowing the Rabbitohs to extend their lead to 22-12 at the break. The Rabbitohs were definitely the stronger of the two sides in the opening 40 minutes and they would go on with it in the second half. Fullback Greg Inglis started the second half in wonderful fashion, looping around the halves 35 metres from the Panthers line. He skipped to the outside, accelerated and dummies before running over his opposite number to score a classic Inglis try. Reynolds converted to extend the lead to 16. The Rabbitohs scored again ten minutes later when Chris McQueen scored for the seventh consecutive match. The Rabbitohs had a repeat set deep in Panthers territory. The home side was short on the right so the Rabbitohs attacked, with McQueen eventually diving over from dummy half to score. Reynolds converted to take the scores to 34-12. Burns scored his second for Panthers in the 60th minutes when he stripped the ball from King to score, but Taylor struck back five minutes later, charging on to a pass close to the line to score his second. Reynolds converted to take the scores to 40-18. The Rabbitohs mounted another couple of attacking raids only to be denied twice by the video referee. The Panthers scored an unusual try in the 71st minute to take the score line to 40-24 in favour of the Rabbitohs. Greg Inglis had a great game at fullback, with John Sutton being equally as strong at five-eighth. Sam Burgess was again valuable in the forward pack in both attack and defence, with rookies Reynolds and Everingham both turning in quality performances

LOSS 24-36
Late changes Garlick started and Korosiau dropped back to the bench. Pollard dropped off the bench. In the Toyota Cup match, the South Sydney Rabbitohs went down 36 points to 24 to the Penrith Panthers at Centrebet Stadium. The Rabbitohs trailed 8-0 after just eight minutes, however they fought back to lead 16-12 at the break and 20-12 ten minutes into the second half. However the Panthers finished the stronger of the two sides, scoring four second half tries to seal the win on home turf. But it all started after a a very contriversial 3 on 1 ball strip 10m out which directly led to a try. Ha'angana complained and was sent to the Sin Bin. During his time off the filed Penrith scoed another try and this wrapped up the match. Apisai Koroisau scored a double for the Rabbitohs from the interchange bench, with Luke Keary leading the side around the park strongly throughout the 80 minutes
