Gun Rabbitohs under 20s halfback Luke Keary has been named in this year's Toyota Cup Team of the Year at a ceremony at NRL Headquarters this morning (Tuesday). NRL Interim Chief Executive, Mr Shane Mattiske, Toyota Regional Manager, Eastern Region, Mr Bernie Smith, and members of the 2012 Toyota Cup Team of the Year gathered to mark the latest achievements in the televised national youth competition, which is unrivalled in Australian sport. “You only have to look at the highlights reel each week in the NRL to appreciate the exciting role the Toyota Cup is playing as a development pathway,” Mr Mattiske said. Keary was selected on the interchange of the 17-man squad and joins current Rabbitohs player Dylan Farrell (2010) and former Rabbitohs under 20s players Chris Sandow (2008), Malcolm Webster (2009), Taioalo Vaivai (2009), Josh Mansour (2010) and James Roberts (2011) in this prestigious group. Keary played three games in the Queensland Cup with the Burleigh Bears before joining the Rabbitohs in 2012. The skilful halfback has scored 17 tries in his 21 appearances this season and is the captain of the South Sydney side. Keary also represented his country in Rugby Union at schoolboy level
