January is almost over and rugby league is starting to pump through everyones veins. Its just 10 days till the RTR match and I am pumped already.
Adam Reynolds has capped off a great year of 2012 by being named by the NRL fans as Souths most favourite All Star. This will be a good training groud for Adam as he prepares for a representative career at senior level.
Congratulations to Nathan Merritt and Adam Reynolds on being being selected for the Emerging Blues squad. And also Farrell who was a late addition to the squad.
The 2013 Salary Cap continues to drag on while the players from all clubs vote on the package being offerred. We should not have taken this long to have the 2013 Salary Cap sorted out. Clubs were asked to work with a $5 mil salary cap for their Top 25. With a increase being brokered to $5.85 mil. The delay is impacting final player recruitment for 2013 as clubs try to second guess the ARLC. This needs to be sorted out urgently as it is now end of January and trial start in less tahn two weeks. There should be a Top 32 playing squad and minimum wage of $80K base for players with $2k per NRL match that they play in the season. Its important that players who sacrifice their non RL careers are payed appropriately as these earnings will be needed to survive in most cases when they are 26+ years old until they complete their Tertiary education and get into they workforce. For RL players this occurs much latter than everyone else in life and in many cases with a young family.
