Souths continue to power ahead and lead the competition lader. 3 more wins to secure another semifinal position.
Congratulations to Nathan Merritt on making the NSW SOO team. Even though it was to replace disgraced SOO player Blake Fergusen, it was great to our great try scorer finally get his chance.
Our U20 team continue to climb back up the ladder with another strong win over the Titans at Redfern with McInnes bagging 16 points, 1 try and 6 goals for the match.
Congratulations for Alex Johnston and Cheyne Whitlaw have been selected to play in the NSW U18 team. They continue to impress with Johnstone already stepping up in U20's.
This year we added Cairns to our away schedule along with Perth and Gosford. Thats three games that Souths season ticket holders and members who cannot travel cannot go and see. We need to reduce the number of games we take away from our home venue. It should be reduced to one regional game and and one heritage game at the SCG.
Statistically we had a mixed bag this week. Completion rates dropped back to a poor standard in heat in Cairns at 67% with errors up to 12 and penalties at 6. Souths Effective 1st tackle for the match improved to 29.6m. And missed tackles improved to 18 missed tackles but we allowed 14 opposition offloads. Which is way too many.
Looking at our left side defence - Merritt-Goodwin-Sutton-McQueen (0-3-1-1) improved again to 5 from 6 missed tackles last week. On the right side Everingham-Walker-Reynolds-Teo (0-0-0-3) was vastly improved at 3 down from 15 missed tackles last week.
Our go forward was steady this week at 1371m. Everingham and Inglis lead the go forward making 10+m per run. With George and Sam Burgess, Asotasi, Teo, Sutton, Everingham and Inglis making more that 100+m in the match. Defensively McQueen was our best in the tackling raking up 25 tackles. With Merritt, Walker, Everingham, Reynolds, Tyrrell, Asotasi, Lima and Starling not missing a tackle.
