The night at Penrith will be remembered fr more things than one. First the weather, a minute before kickoff it starts coming down cats and dogs. This game then became a battle royale between forward packs in the wet.
Just a week after Sutton broke McCarthy's FG playing record Nathan Merritt did the same. But what he will be most remembered for is breaking Benny Wareing's 81 year record and becoming South Sydney greatest ever try scorer. Well done Max!
We are blodding youngsters pretty regularly now with Kirisome Auva'a stepping to cover for injured Reddy this week. He did well in tough conditions.
Our Matts U16 team secured their spot in the U16 finals with a solid win over the Wests. And our U18 team also secured a Top 4 birth.
The NRL this week sent notice out to all clubs that lifting tackles won't be tolerated any more. And have instructed the MRC to not shy awy from charging players who put players in a dangerous position.
Statistically it was a interesting game. We recorded our worst effective 1st tackle half of football with a horrid 54.6m in the heavy rain of the first half. Completion rates improved to 76% and errors were down to 11 and but we conceeded 9 penalties. Souths Effective 1st tackle for the match dropped to a poor 45.3m. But we only missed 4 tackles which was fantastic, going for 63 min without a missed tackle. We allowed 6 opposition offloads.
Looking at our left side defence - Goodwin-Auva'a-Sutton-Turner (1-0-0-0) only 1 missed tackle. On the right side Merritt-Walker-Reynolds-Teo (0-0-0-0) was also great with 0 missed tackles this week.
Our go forward dropped in the wet to a very poor 1069m. McQueen lead the way in the forwards was the best making 9+m per run. With only Sam Burgess making more that 100+m in the match. Defensively Te'o was our best in the tackling raking up 49 tackles. With Inglis, Auva'a, Merritt, Sutton, Reynolds, Tyrrell, George Burgess, Turner, Te'o, McInnes, McQueen and Clark not missing a tackle.
