The match was a great arm wrestle by the two best defensive teams in the competition in front of another bumper Good Friday Easter Show crowd. The Dogs put 7 props into the team this week to tire the Souths team and Turner, Koroisau and Tyrrell came off second best. But in teh end it ended up being two dropped balls and a poor setup for field goal that cost us the game. Time for some field goal practice sessions.
With the early injury to Koroisau McInnes needed to step up and fill in the role of playmaker fulltime. He held his own and is a star of the future.
Souths started their recruitment for 2015 much better than they had for 2014 with two SOO forwards joinging our ranks
Add Emre Guler as a future forward star. He was a powerhouse at prop in the U16's preliminary semi-final game.
2014 has seen a number of obstruction ruling confusion in the eyes of the fans. It is simple, if a block player impeds the defence or stops in the defensive line impeeding the defesive slide then its a clear obstruction as was the case in 2013. Come on NRL get you act together.
Statistically it was another good game. Completion rates was poor at 69% and with 10 errors and only conceeded 7 penalties. But errors cost matches against Top 4 teams and two errors cost us the match. Souths Effective 1st tackle for the match improved back to 33.0m. And missed tackles were back up to 24 tackles in the dry this week. We allowed 9 opposition offloads.
Looking at our left side defence - Goodwin-Auva'a-Sutton-McQueen (0-1-4-3) was poor with 8 missed tackles. On the right side Merritt-Walker-Reynolds-Turner/Lowe/Picker (0-1-0-1) was also great with 2 missed tackles this week.
Our go forward was good at 1369m. Tyrrell and L.Burgess lead the way in the forwards was the best making 9+m per run. With Sam Burgess and Clark making more that 100+m in the match. Defensively Sam Burgess was our best in the tackling raking up 38 tackles. With Inglis, Goodwin, Merritt, Reynolds, Luke Burgess, Turner, McInnes, Clark and Picker not missing a tackle.
