It was a great representative standalone weekend. Don't let the critics sway you. It was a important set of games one decided a place in the end of season 4 Nations. The others a opportunity for our first time representative to impress and get a taste of rep football.
Congratulations to Greg Inglis, Dylan Walker and Adam Reynolds who all played well in the representaive hit out on the weekend. GI scored a try, Walker showed great speed and Reynolds set up tries and landed critical goals.
Lote became the latest Souths player to don a interntional jersey. Congratuations to international verteran
Our U18 and U16 both bowed out of their competitions over the weekend after a successful season and ended in the final 4 for both grades. Its been a great performance by everyone.
Over the weekend we saw players put in a position of choosing Nation v Country. There are a few factors contributing to this. There is financial benefit of playing SOO, but we also have the lack of regular internationals. But what what is hurting the most is the rule that allows a Tier 2 nation player revert back to being a Tier 1 national player immediately after the RLWC rather than waiting 2 years, as is the case in other codes. But we also need to allow players who are heading towards retirement to swap from a Tier 1 to Tier 2 nation to assist in their development. Come on RLIF with this important small change we can protect the international RL product and then we can focus on Test match payments being on par with SOO and adding a 4 Nation Pacific Cup in parrallel to SOO.
