Good to be back in winners circle. Souths are clutching to 4th position on table curtosy of the 2 byes. While it ened up a good win it was much closer with Souths starting slowly after the 2 byes. But what was most enjoyable was leaving Parramatta Stadium with a win, the first time in 19 years.
With Sutton slotting back into 5/8 has means the debaite around who will be halfback has started Reynolds the established half verses the up and comer. Reynolds is one of the rare players to have never represented the Bears coming immediately into First Grade when Sandow departed 3 years ago. With Keary's return form injury we have bases covered in what will be a 17 man assault for the title.
Sometimes it harder to play for the Bears than to play First Grade. Bryson Goodwin is a classic example. Taking 50 weeks to make his debut.
Devon is causing selection headaches for his U20's coach by forcing his way into the halves and moving captain Tangiiti back to the bench. Its a pleasant headache to have, I ahve been told.
There has been a lot of talk this week on the new players insurance scheme. Where maximum payout comes into line with the AFL where costs will be split in three player/club and the NRL.
Statistically the game started slow but finished strong. Completion rates were our second best this season at 87% our error count back down at 5 and we conceeded 8 penalties. Our go forward however was our best all season at 1623m. With Walker, Luke, Johnston, Tuqiri, Reynolds and Keary all making 10+m per run. With Sam, Tom and George Burgess, Luke, Inglis, Johnston, Auva'a and Walker making more that 100+m in the match. Defensively Sam and George Burgess were our best in the tackling raking up 33 tackles.
