So after a the weekend we ended up missing the Minor Premiership by one converted try and ended up 3rd. The 10 min Sin Bin period cost us big time in this game as we let in 14 points in this period. But its better to lose such a game now rather than later in finals campaign. So lets the finals begin off to face arch enemies Manly.
With Reynolds out John Sutton was rushed back into the team as 5/8 from his injury.
Luke Keary got his first opportunity to steer the team as halfback and did a pretty good job but we did miss Reynolds kicking game.
Big Sammy bagged a triple in our U20's including a great leap in the air to score the last try of the game. He has what it takes for a air attack.
A great last second come from behind win has secured Souths a spot in the NYC U20's finals for another year. Well done everyone they just didn't give up.
No matter what structure we end up with Reserve Grade we need to align up FG, RG and U20s to support player development and allow fans to see fringe first grade players players playing on match day. There is just too big a gap between U20's and FG. And in the forwards there is too big a gap between U20s and RG(or NSW Cup).
Statistically we were rocks and diamonds. Good in some areas and horrible in others. The missed too many tackles with this was the telling factor in the end. Completion rates improved to 85% our error count dropped to 7 and we conceeded 6 penalties. Souths Effective 1st tackle for the match dropped to at 32.9m. Missed tackles dropped to a horrid 40 missed tackles this week. And our opposition offloads were also very poor at 10.
Looking at our left side defence - Johnston-Auvaa-Sutton-McQueen (2-2-4-4) was steady but still very poor at 10 missed tackles. On the right side Tuqiri-Walker-Keary-Turner (2-3-1-3) dropped to 9 from 4 missed tackles this week.
Our go forward dropped to a average at 1419m. With Inglis, Johnston and Tuqiri all making 10+m per run. With Inglis, George and Sam Burgess, McQueen and Walker making more that 100+m in the match. With Inglis making more than 200m. Defensively Turner was our best in the tackling raking up 37 tackles. With Inglis and Tyrell not missing a tackle.
Signing off for another week - the midweek Cyber View from the Hill
