It what can only be described as a perfect day South Sydney in front a recoprd crowd won their 21st premiership victory. When you think back to that day back in October 1999 when News Ltd booted us out of the competition today was the ultimate culmination of of fightback. With tears of joy and releif every Souths fan who survived to see this day it will live long in our memories. Front breakfast in Redfern, drinks with so many old friends, to ringing the 1908 bell once again, to that George Burgess special, a Greg Inglis goanna , followed by scenes of joy from Hoembush to Maroubra to Redfern, it was a weekend to remember.
In scenes that reminded us of John Sattler Sam Burgess played the game of his lifetime with a broken cheekbone and won the Clive Churchill medal. He was a inspiration out there on Grand Final day and will be sorely missed.
Lote Tuqiri and Ben Te'o also end their NRL careers on a high and they were a inspiration.
What a game by our fill in hooker Api Koroisau all the pressure was on him after Issac was suspended during the week. He did performed a great job and was a key member of the team in his last game for teh Rabbitohs.
In the ultimate peace offering George sayed he would comeback to Souths agme if $50k was donated to chairty. Well a few business took up his challenge and true to his word Goerge made a appearance on Grand Final Day. George for the hero who lead fightback we thank you for comeing back for what we all fought for.
Statistically it was a tough contest will only 8 points in the game for the first 73 minutes, but this week we did not let in the points we finished in a rampage. Completion rates improved again to 87% our error count was good at 8 and we conceeded 6 penalties. Souths Effective 1st tackle for the match was great at at 26.1m, on the back of a very good 1st half of 22.0m. Missed tackles was improved to be only 21 missed tackles this week. And our opposition offloads improved to 3.
Looking at our left side defence - Johnston-Auvaa-Keary-Sutton (0-0-2-0) was outstanding at 2 missed tackles from 9 last week. On the right side Tuqiri-Walker-Reynolds-Teo (2-2-3-2) was dropped at 9 missed tackles this week.
Our go forward improved to 1670m was the best for the whole season. With Inglis, A.Johnston, G.Burgess, Koroisau, Te'o and T.Burgess making 10+m per run. With Inglis, Sam Burgess, George Burgess, Tom Burgess, Te'o and Johnston making more that 100+m in the match. With Inglis more than 200m. Defensively Sam Burgess and Te'o was our best in the tackling raking up 35 tackles. With Koroisau, Tyrrell, Sutton, Clark, McQueen, Inglis, Joohnston and Auva'a not missing a tackle.
