Inglis, Walker, Johnston Kangaroo Selections
Rabbitohs back-line members, Greg Inglis, Dylan Walker and Alex Johnston have today been named in Tim Sheens’ Australian Kangaroos 24 man squad for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament. Souths Juniors, Walker and Johnston, have both been selected as part of a total of 10 debutants – Walker after only making his debut in round 10 of the 2013 season (40 first grade games), while Johnston caps off a wonderful rookie season with selection, after just 18 appearances in the top grade since making his debut in round eight against the Brisbane Broncos on ANZAC Day. Greg Inglis will have the opportunity to add to his 29 Tests for Australia following his selection, with the Rabbitohs fullback set to replace the injured Billy Slater in the number one jersey. “We have a really good blend of experience and youth,” Holden Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens said. “The positive for me is the experience that even the debutants have. We have a high proportion of State of Origin representatives and premiership winners and they all deserve to wear the jumper.” Congratulations to Greg, Dylan and Alex on their selection.
Kangaroos Coach, Tim Sheens, named three Rabbitohs in his Four Nations squad for the upcoming tournament today (Tuesday) at NRL Central in the form of Greg Inglis and debutants Alex Johnston and Dylan Walker. For Souths Juniors Walker and Johnston – who claimed the John Sattler Rookie of the Year award in 2013 and 2014 respectively – selection comes just two years after representing the Australian Schoolboys together. Since making his debut in round eight of this season, Johnston became the Rabbitohs' top try-scorer, bagging 21 tries in 18 matches, including one in the Grand Final against the Bulldogs. Walker built on his debut season in 2014 by earning selection for City and capping off the year with a Premiership ring alongside Johnston. Sheens was full of praise for his two Rabbitohs selections when he spoke to Rabbitohs.com.au today. “Dylan and Alex have come through on great form and a great season – a breakout season for young Alex – and Dylan has shown over the last 18 months that he was going to get there,” said Sheens. “I’m really looking forward to working with them. They’re an exciting pair and I think GI (Greg Inglis) will be keen to work with them as well.” “Obviously they play together and would know each other’s games, so that doesn’t hurt,” said Sheens. “But it’s not the only reason – they were picked on their form. But the fact that it’s a combination does help a little bit if they are thrown in. It’s hard to say whether it will come together at some stage. “I think both boys will just be happy to get a game, but if it’s next to one another, well that’d be an added bonus I suppose.”
Luke Kiwi Selection
Rabbitohs hooker, Issac Luke, has today been selected in New Zealand’s Four Nations squad following another memorable season in the red and green. Luke has played 29 Tests for the Kiwis to date, has won a World Cup in the black and white, and also played an integral role in the side’s progression to last year’s Rugby League World Cup Final against Australia.
