LOSS 12-47
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have gone down to the Brisbane Broncos by 47-12 in Round 25 at Allianz Stadium. The Rabbitohs found themselves down by over a point a minute after only a quarter of the match gone, and despite some positive signs, the Broncos’ ability to turn defence into attack within seconds ultimately put the men in red and green behind the eight ball early. Three tries to Ben Hunt, and doubles to Jordan Kahu and the elusive Anthony Milford helped the Broncos to a hefty win. It would be the Broncos who would post four points on the back of a sneaky offload from Adam Blair on the 40 metre-line that sent the Broncos away for a break. The ball would eventually end up in the hands of winger, Jordan Kahu, who scored in the corner. Corey Parker converted from the touch-line to make it 6-0. With the Rabbitohs again on the attack in what seemed to be a promising raid, Adam Reynolds kicked to the corner of Alex Johnston who was unable to control the ball. The pill eventually ended up in the hands of Brisbane’s Corey Oates, who turned defence into attack by racing 95 metres to score despite Dylan Walker’s defensive efforts to make it 10-0 after 14 minutes. But things would get even worse for the Rabbitohs from the very next set when the Broncos broke clear through the red and green defence for Ben Hunt to score under the posts. All of a sudden, the score read 16-0 with Parker’s conversion. Kahu grabbed his second of the night shortly afterwards on the back of a bizarre situation that again saw the Rabbitohs’ attack turned completely on its head within a matter of seconds – the Broncos finding themselves with the ball on the Rabbitohs’ 40 metre line after a ricochet. With 14 minutes remaining in the opening stanza, the score now read 22-0. A mistake from the Broncos in their own half would finally lead to the first points of the night for Souths, when Glenn Stewart orchestrated a movement that saw Chris Grevsmuhl – just minutes into the game – crash over from short-range. Reynolds added the extras to make it a more respectable 22-6. Four minutes from half-time, an Adam Reynolds bomb just over half-way travelled 50 metres into the hands of Darius Boyd, who promptly dropped the ball, gifting the Rabbitohs possession in perfect field position. But the Rabbitohs couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity. The teams would ultimately go to the break with the Broncos leading 22-6. The second stanza started just as poorly for the Rabbitohs, with Thomas Burgess dropping the ball just shy of half-way to give the Broncos first meaningful use of the ball in good field position. Mercilessly, Brisbane were unable to capitalise on the field position with points, however did manage to force a repeat set. Justin Hodges came within a whisker of scoring from the ensuing set, but the Brisbane skipper was unable to control the ball over the line. But Ben Hunt made no mistake mere minutes later when his grubber kick into the in-goal was picked up by Glenn Stewart, only for Hunt to strip the Rabbitoh of the ball to score. Kahu converted from right in front to make it 28-6. The Broncos turned defence into attack yet again early in the second half as John Sutton left the pitch with a suspected right ankle injury. But the Rabbitohs managed to rally to keep the Broncos out. Four repeat sets to the Rabbitohs set up Issac Luke for a crucial try with 25 minutes in the match remaining – the hooker burrowing over from dummy-half to take the score to 28-12 with Adam Reynolds’ conversion. The Rabbitohs looked to be a renewed outfit, with both their attack and defence muscling up. But a penalty against Luke for a shoulder charge that landed the hooker on report took the wind out of Souths’ sails. By the 63rd minute, the Broncos were all over the Rabbitohs in attack, with the Anthony Milford scoring off the back of a grubber-kick into the in-goal, and before long, Hunt was racing in for his third of the night. Parker converted both attempts to make it 40-12. Chris Grevsmuhl almost grabbed himself a second try with seven minutes remaining when he took a ball on the burst close to the try-line, but a lack of ball-control saw the try disallowed by the video referee. Milford was at it again with four minutes in the match remaining when he took an inside pass on the 40 metre line, before streaking away with the ball to score 14 metres in from touch. Kahu added the extras, before Milford added a field-goal to proceedings, bringing the score to 47-12.

Judiciary News
Rabbitohs hooker, Issac Luke, was placed on report for a Shoulder Charge during the match and subsequently charged by the Match Review Committee with a grade one shoulder-charge, resulting from an incident in the 59th minute of last night’s clash with the Brisbane Broncos. The charge carries a base penalty of 200 points. Luke has two prior non similar offences and attracts a 40% loading. Plus Issac has 40 carryover points. Totally a 320 point charge or 3 weeks. An early guilty plea to the charge by Luke would see him accrue 250 points resulting in a two-match suspension.
Issac has since chosen to taken the early guilty plea and will miss 2 weeks.
U20 National Youth Holden Cup - Round 25
v Brisbane, 5:30pm
WIN 26-24
Late Changes Besgrove was out. Hamlin started lock, Preece second row, Hiroti on the bench.
A determined Rabbitohs NYC outfit showed their true colours against the third-placed Broncos by downing the visitors 26-24 in an inspired victory that included one of the tries of the season at Allianz Stadium. The victory will go a long way to helping the team lift themselves off the bottom of the Holden Cup ladder given other results and a win in Round 26. The Broncos went in after just three minutes through Jayden Berrell after some desperate defence from the Rabbitohs on their own line yielded a knock-on, allowing the Broncos to go on the attack within the 10 metre zone. Berrell went in under the sticks with halfback Ash Taylor converting to make it 6-0. But while the Broncos looked well in control in the first 10 minutes, a Rabbitoh revival saw Irae Simone apply pressure on the Broncos defence with the five-eighth hitting and spinning out of two tackles before overpowering the final line of Broncos defenders to score next to the posts. Jordie Hedges converted to equalise at six apiece. Souths showed brilliant defence in the face of some determined Brisbane attack – the red and green outside backs scrambling to cover on a number of occasions. However with the weight of possession falling squarely in the favour of the Broncos, it wasn’t long before Broncos centre, Jordan Drew, became the main beneficiary of a cross-field kick to score out wide. Taylor made no mistake with his conversion to re-take the lead for the visitors at 12-6. The Broncos continued to impress with the ball in hand with some adventurous attack, eventually resulting in fullback, Joshua Bowen-Bowyer pouncing on a loose ball in the in-goal to score before Taylor added the extras to make it 18-6. With two minutes left in the opening stanza, Broncos replacement Kalolo Saitaua crashed over from short range to extend his team’s lead to 24-6 with Taylor’s fourth conversion going into the sheds. On the resumption, the Rabbitohs scored what is sure to be one of the tries of the season through Damon Goolagong that went through 10 sets of hands and included two kicks before the winger ran in to score. Hedges put the perfect exclamation point on the movement with a booming touch-line conversion to take the score to 24-12 in Brisbane’s favour. The Rabbitohs revival continued with Siosifa Talakai bagging two strong tries in quick succession to get within four points of the Broncos at 24-20. Souths threw everything they had at the Broncos defence in the dying minutes of the match as they looked for points, and they would come through hooker Aaron Booth, who ran from dummy-half and scored a crucial try to equalise. Hedges made no mistake with the conversion to re-take the lead for the Rabbitohs with less than three minutes left on the clock.

Reserve Grade - VB NSW Cup Round 25
v Newtown, Henson Park Sat Aug 29 3:00pm
LOSS 22-30
Late Changes - McInnes, Carter, McQueen, J.Roberts, Cricton are out. Schaumkel started center, Sorenson hooker, Saumamao second row, Mauala lock. Simone, Lee and Clayton Williams added to the bench.
Despite going down on the scoreboard in Round 25 of the NSW Cup by 30-22 against the Newtown Jets, the North Sydney Bears have secured their place in Week one of the competition’s finals series after finishing eighth. Corin Smith put in a four-try performance for the Jets, while Todd Murphy controlled the game beautifully and Junior Roqica proved to be a powerful asset up the middle of the field. Cody Walker scored two tries for the Bears, which now brings his impressive 2015 try-scoring tally up to 17. The game began incredibly poorly for the Bears, dropping the ball on the second tackle of the game, before giving away a penalty in the following set. The Jets took full advantage of the gifted field-position, as Daniel Abou-Sleiman threw a perfectly weighted pass for Smith to score in the right corner. Todd Murphy slotted the conversion, but the Bears responded almost immediately thanks to yet another freakish try to Walker. Walker ran the ball on last tackle through a fractured defensive line, beat various defenders and got around the fullback to plant the ball down and decrease the deficit to 6-4. The Bears hit the lead through a try off the kick-off set, as Jack Gosiewski threw an offload straight into the hands of Ed Murphy who did the rest. Darren Nicholls converted to increase the lead to 10-6. Nesiasi Mataitonga offloaded to Corey Brown, who darted down the left sideline and looked certain to score, but Ed Murphy chased hard and pulled off an inspirational try-saving tackle just short of the line. However, nobody could stop Smith for his second try of the afternoon, as he showed blistering speed to charge through a hole and evade Daryl Millard to take the lead back to 12-10. It was now the Jets’ turn to score back-to-back tries off the kick-off set, as Tim Robinson was on the receiving end of a great offload and ran away to score, which came off the back of a Roqica line-break. The Jets increased their lead to 22-10 when Todd Murphy perfectly held up a pass for Abou-Sleiman to get the ball to an unmarked Smith, who completed a first half hat-trick in the right corner. The Bears scored an unusual try in the opening two minutes of the second half, and it began when Daryl Millard picked up a ball in the in-goal that was knocked on by the Jets in the field of play. The Jets did not play to the whistle – thinking it would be a turnover, and Millard took full advantage by getting the ball to Ed Murphy, who ran the length of the field through some dormant defence to score. After 12 minutes of constant errors by both sides, Todd Murphy broke through the Bears defensive line and passed to Smith - who was lingering in support, to score his fourth try of the afternoon. A controversial no-try ruling came in the 60th minute, when Latrell Schaumkel believed he grounded a Walker grubber, but was ruled a knock-on by the touch judge. Three minutes later, the Bears scored after Nicholls put a chip-kick through the goal posts and Walker came out of nowhere to catch the ball and decrease the deficit to 28-22. A Jets penalty in front of the posts deflated the Bears, as Todd Murphy slotted the easy two points to take the score line out of try-scoring range with only 10 minutes remaining. 30-22 was the final score, which means the Bears finish in eighth position and will play the Canterbury Bulldogs next week in an elimination-final
