LOSS 0-30
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have gone down to the Sydney Roosters in the final Round of the NRL Premiership by 30-0 at Allianz Stadium, the Roosters taking the Minor Premiership and the Ron Coote Cup in the process - the men in red and green finishing seventh. In front of 25,109 Members and supporters, the Rabbitohs managed to keep the Roosters scoreless in the second half, but struggled to post points themselves after leaking 30 first-half points in the opening half hour of the match. The game started poorly for the Roosters, who knocked on in just the second tackle of the match on their own 20 metre line, gifting Souths possession in prime field position. A mistake from the Rabbitohs coupled with a string of penalties to the Roosters though was all that was need for the home-side to get a leg-up in the field-position stakes, with Michael Jennings eventually finishing off a movement to grab first points. Maloney converted to give the Chooks the lead eight minutes in. Mere minutes later, a cross-field kick from Maloney to Blake Ferguson on a last tackle play, saw the centre swoop in and score the side’s second of the night. Maloney added the extras to make it 12-0. The cross-field kick was again proved to be a dangerous ploy when Jackson Hastings hoisted a kick to the wing of Joel Reddy, who couldn’t secure the ball. The Roosters’ Boyd Cordner made no mistake though in picking up the crumbs before Maloney added the extras to make it 18—0 after as many minutes. Cordner was at it again in the 20th minute when he attacked from short-range before passing off the ground to a flying Jake Friend – the hooker scoring 10 metres away from the posts. Maloney converted to make the score 24-0. While everything was going the Roosters’ way, Maloney was placed on report for tripping after a Rabbitohs player collected the five-eighths drop ball. With seven minutes in the first half remaining, the Rabbitohs got their first meaningful use of the ball when Adam Reynolds put a grubber-kick into the in-goal that forced a line-drop-out, but the Roosters defence would ultimately hold strong. Aidan Guerra added his name to the scorecard with the first half winding down, with Maloney adding the extras to take the score to 30-0 at the break. After the first half avalanche of points, the Rabbitohs managed to stem the tide defensively, but were unable to post points themselves. The Tricolours weren’t losing much defensively either with Sam Moa pulling off a number of big hits in quick succession on George Burgess and Glenn Stewart, the latter of which left the field. Things went from bad to worse for the Rabbitohs when a long-range break beginning inside their own in-goal and finishing just one metre short of the try-line, was stopped by Chris McQueen. But McQueen laid on the tackle too long and found himself in the sin-bin – the Rabbitohs now a man short. With just under two minutes remaining in the match, Jackson Hastings raced through a yawning gap to seemingly score the first points of the second half, but the video referee deemed that Hastings lost the ball over the line. The Roosters finished the match with their third consecutive Minor Premiership and the Ron Coote Cup.

U20 National Youth Holden Cup - Round 26
v Sydney Roosters, 5:30pm
DRAW 22-22
Late Changes Cottrell, Tangiiti, O'Donnell and Besgrove were out. Makoare-Boyce started fullback, Ellison center, Perrin wing, Hedges center, Simone five-eighth, Hiroti second row and Widders-Leece was added to the bench.
The Rabbitohs’ Under 20s side has fought out a spirited 22 all draw at Allianz Stadium in their final game for season 2015 with Damon Goolagong grabbing a hat-trick. It was the Rabbitohs who looked liveliest in the early stages of proceedings, with the side showing plenty of confidence by throwing the ball wide deep in their own half. Josh Ellison would make a 60 metre dash on the back of the adventurous movement – the young-gun being taken down millimetres before the line but earning a penalty thanks to a high tackle. Another penalty followed mere seconds later, gifting yet more possession to the Rabbitohs inside the Roosters’ red-zone. But Troy Finch’s men were unable to capitalise with points. The positive signs continued after just eight minutes when Eli Levido kicked a booming forty-twenty kick to regain possession. Joe Gardiner would open the scoring off the back of the play by powering over next to the posts. Jordie Hedges added the extras to make it 6-0. The Roosters responded through winger, Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck, who took a ball unmarked near the side-line to touch down. Latrell Mitchell converted from the sideline to equalise. From the kick-off though, the Roosters were unable to control the ball, allowing Souths another opportunity to post points. Despite some sustained pressure, the Roosters defence held strong. Grant Garvey then took advantage of a gap in the Rabbitohs’ defence by scooting the ball from dummy-half to score. Mitchell made no mistake with the conversion attempt to take the lead at 12-6. Lightning struck twice for the Roosters when Zachary Nicholls dropped the ball from the kick-off immediately following the try to give Souths possession. The Roosters would ultimately survive the onslaught. The Roosters extended their lead when winger, Charlie Taylor, crossed in the corner to make it 16-6 with 12 minutes in the opening half remaining. But the Rabbitohs would have the final say of the half when Damon Goolagong tip-toed down the side-line to plant the ball down for a four-pointer despite the better efforts of the Roosters. Hedges made no mistake adding the extras to make it 16-12 going into the sheds. It took nearly half of the second half for more points to be scored and they would come through Goolagong, who touched down for his second to momentarily equalise out wide. Hedges converted from out wide to take the lead for the Rabbitohs at 18-16. Before long, Goolagong was in for his third in similar fashion to his last effort to extend the red and green lead to 22-16 with 19 minutes remaining. Mitchell hit back for the Roosters with a converted try of his own though with 70 minutes gone to make the score 22 apiece – a score-line that would keep until full-time.

Reserve Grade - VB NSW Cup Minor Preliminary Semi-Final
(8v5) v Canterbury-Bankstown, Belmore Sports Ground Sat Sep 5 6:00pm
LOSS 4-22
Late Changes Simone, Gosiewski and Crichton are out. A.Gray starts wing, Hyland hooker, Wintone Asotasi second row. Sorensen and Maula were added to the bench.
The Canterbury Bulldogs put on a defensive master-class to defeat the North Sydney Bears 22-4 and advance to Week Two of the VB NSW Cup Finals Series. Jaline Graham played an imperative role in getting the Bulldogs off to a flying start; with two early tries to his name as well as a line-break that led to a try. The Bears threw everything at the Bulldogs for 80 minutes, but the home side only conceded one try and proved they are a force to be reckoned with in the back end of the season. Graham opened the scoring for the Bulldogs when he stepped his way through some flimsy goal line defence to break through and plant the ball down. Levi Dodd’s conversion attempt hit the post and the score remained 4-0. The next 20 minutes saw an incredibly entertaining game of football, with both sides being patient and making limited errors, with the match being played at an extremely fast pace. A Graham linebreak followed by a Darryl Millard mistake gave the Bulldogs a try-scoring opportunity, and they capitalised when Tyrone Phillips stood up in a tackle and offloaded for Graham to score his second try with nine minutes remaining in the half. Matt Frawley unsuccessfully attempted a field goal on the stroke of halftime, which meant the score remained 10-0 heading into the break. Corey Thompson split the Bears in half just four minutes into the second half to run away and pass for Pat O’Hanlon, who was lingering in support, to score under the posts and increase the Bulldogs lead to 16-0. Some desperate Bulldogs defence denied Nathan Brown the first Bears try of the night after they held him up on fifth tackle after he charged over the line. A pin-point cross-field kick by Matt Frawley led to the Bulldogs fourth try after Jarrod McInally leapt over the top of Bernard Gregorius to pluck the ball out of the air and plant the ball down in the left corner. Gregorius immediately made amends with a powerful 40-metre kick return, which led to a John Olive try in the left corner after a Cody Walker cutout ball fractured the Bulldogs' defence and created an overlap. The Bears almost went back-to-back when Gregorius burrowed over from dummy half, and despite various protests from Bears players, the referee called held up. Some incredible Bulldogs defence denied the Bears further opportunity to score, followed by an Alex Sorge intercept to get them out of trouble and once again relieve the pressure.
