LOSS 12-20
The South Sydney Rabbitohs been defeated 20-12 by the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at Allianz Stadium tonight (Monday night), despite a valiant second-half showing. Despite struggling in the opening half of football, the Rabbitohs were impressive in the second period of the match dominating in attack and providing a solid defensive performance. The Sea Eagles would find their feet early as Daly Cherry-Evans linked with his halves partner, Jamie Lyon who ran a perfect line, slicing through the Rabbitohs defence to open the scoring for the visitors in the 4th minute of the game. Lyon converted his own try to provide his side with an early 6-0 lead. With both sides struggling to capitalise on their attacking opportunities after first blood had been drawn, the Sea Eagles would be the next on the scoreboard, opting to take the two points off the back of a penalty to extend their advantage beyond a converted try at 8-0. An error from the Rabbitohs deep within their own territory would see the northern beaches side add to the home sides woes, with a slick backline movement resulting in a four-pointer to Jorge Taufau in the 24th minute. Lyon was unable to add the extras from the sideline, leaving the difference at two converted tries. The Sea Eagles dominance in attack would continue, as the away side continued to bombard the Rabbitohs try-line. The Red and Greens defence would eventually succumb to the sustained pressure as Daly Cherry-Evans put Jamie Buhrer through a hole before the back-rower linked up with Tom Trbojevic who strolled over for a four-pointer. Once again, the Manly skipper had no issues with the conversion, setting up an 18-0 score line. Having been deprived of attacking opportunity for the majority of the half, the Rabbitohs found themselves in prime attacking territory in the final minutes of the opening period, but were unable to provide the finishing touches required to open their account, as the Sea Eagles went into the break with an 18 point buffer. On resumption, the Rabbitohs would be first to strike through Adam Reynolds, with the halfback running the ball and dummying, slipping through the Sea Eagles defensive line to score. Reynolds converted his own try, keeping his side in the game at 18-6. It wasn’t long before Reynolds was in the thick of the action once more, with the playmaker sending Cody Walker over off the back of a well-placed grubber kick. No mistake was made with the conversion, with the Rabbitohs finding themselves within a converted try of drawing level. The Rabbitohs looked to have scored their third try of the evening shortly after, as Joe Burgess found himself in space on the wing before taking on the defence to place the ball over the line. After being referred to the bunker, the try was overruled as it was deemed that the English international had knocked-on whilst attempting to ground the ball. Once again, the Sea Eagles would opt to take the two points on offer after receiving a penalty deep within the Rabbitohs half. The away sides opening points in the second half pushed their lead past a converted try and would prove to be the final points of the game.

U20 National Youth Holden Cup - Round 20
v Manly-Warringah, 4:45pm
WIN 44-40
Late Changes - Wakeham, Murray, Haimana Hiroti were out. Coleman started halfback, Cottrell second row.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have claimed a thrilling 44-40 victory over the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in the Holden Cup, despite a late comeback from the northern beaches-based side. The Rabbitohs would survive a remarkable late comeback from the visitors to claim the two points and re-join the winners circle after their loss against the Brisbane Broncos in Round 19. In a match characterised by attacking flair, both sides had opportunities to draw first blood in the early stages of the game, but handling errors close to the line would see the attacking play break down. It would be the Sea Eagles that would claim the opening points of the encounter, with winger Lucas Price providing the finishing moves on the back of some enterprising attack down the left flank. The conversion attempt from the sideline was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 4-0. The Rabbitohs were quick to retaliate, as Brock Gray ran a strong line to breach the Manly-Warringah defence and secure first points for his side. Chad O’Donnell made no mistake from in front, adding the extras and setting up a 6-4 score line. It wouldn’t take long for the home side to extend their lead, as Bailey Shiach-Wise streaked away capitalising on a break from winger, Tom Perrin. Once again, O’Donnell was gifted a simple conversion to set up a 12-4 score. Manly would be next to strike next, with Nicho Hynes sending Jayden Hocking through a hole out wide. Hynes proceeded to add the extras, reducing the deficit to two points at 12-10. The points would continue to flow in the opening period of the match, as Brock Gray claimed a first-half double, pouncing on a pin-point grubber kick from Chad O’Donnell. Unlike his opening attempts, the Rabbitohs halfback was unable to secure the extras as the score remained 16-10. South Sydney’s dominant period in attack would continue as Keaon Koloamatangi made the most of his size to barge over from close-range. The additional two would be added, leaving the score at 22-10 to the Red and Greens. Continuing his strong performance in the open stanza, Chad O’Donnell would bag himself a try, as the halfback took on the Sea Eagles defensive line before muscling his way over. The Rabbitohs playmaker would have no problem with the conversion, with the scores sitting at 28-10 heading into the break. On resumption, the Sea Eagles would come out firing with Jaiden Tarrant keeping his side in the game with a four-pointer. Hynes would add the extras as the difference remained two converted tries. Some brilliant work out of dummy-half from Phoenix Hunt would see the Rabbitohs provide the counter-attack, with the interchange hooker showing blistering pace to score. O’Donnell’s fine form with the boot continued providing a 34 -16 advantage to the home side. The Sea Eagles would continue their strong start to the second half as Lucas Price bagged his second try of the evening. The score would remain 34-20 as the conversion attempt was waved away. The blow for blow nature of the second period would continue with Kalani Ili running the ball on the last tackle, showcasing brute strength to find the try line for his side. Once again, easy work was made of the conversion attempt, with the score line extended to 40-20. It would be the Rabbitohs that would be next to score off the back of some dynamic attack, with Keaon Koloamatangi scoring his second. Unable to convert the try, the score would remain 44-20. With the game appearing to be all but over, the Sea Eagles would stage a remarkable comeback with Luke Polsellin, Tremaine Brown, Billy Bainbridge and Brad Parker all scoring in the final ten minutes of the match. Fortunately for the Red and Greens, the unbelievable late effort from the away side wouldn’t prove to be enough, with the young Rabbitohs claiming a thrilling 44-40 victory.

Reserve Grade - Intrust Super NSW Premiership Round 19
v Manly-Warringah, Brookvale Oval, Sat Jul 23 3:00pm
WIN 32-18
Late Changes - Neilsen, Grienke and Coleman are out. Oldfield starts center. Williams prop, Murray lock, Rogers on the bench.
The North Sydney Bears easily defeated a disappointing Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 32-18 in the ‘Northern Derby’ at Brookvale Oval on Saturday to keep their place in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW top eight. The loss was made worse for the Sea Eagles as they lost both halves – Isaac John in his comeback game and skipper Pita Godinet – to serious concussion and neck injuries that saw both playmakers stretchered off from their injuries and take no further part in the match. Both John and Godinet will almost certainly miss Manly’s catch up game against Newcastle at Brookvale Oval on Wednesday night as a result. After a bright attacking start for Manly came up empty, the Bears opened the scoring when fullback Latrell Schaumkel crossed in the seventh minute from close range. Eli Levido converted and Norths led 6-0. Levido extended the lead when he scored four minutes later through poor Manly goal line defence. The halfback’s conversion doubled the Bears’ lead to 12-0. When Bears second-rower Jack Gosiewski burst through three tackles wide out in the 15th minute, the Bears looked ready to rack up a cricket score at 16-0. Jamil Hopoate ran a nice angle off a Godinet pass to score under the posts in the 19th minute to put Manly on the board at 16-6 with Dylan Kelly’s conversion. Shortly after Hopoate’s try, Godinet then went down with his neck injury from a solid tackle after passing to his support players. This set Manly right back on their heels. The Bears took full advantage in the 27th minute when centre Michael Oldfield revived memories of past Manly glories when he beautifully leapt up for a Levido cross kick to mark in two hands and score to extend Norths’ lead to 20-6. Bears skipper Ed Murphy then burst through more token Manly goal line defence in the next set from the restart to give Norths a commanding 24-6 lead at the break. Hopoate got Manly off to the best possible start when he bagged his second try in Manly’s first real attack of the second half to bring the Sea Eagles within striking distance at 24-12 with Kelly’s conversion. That was as close as Manly got for the rest of the day as Norths then made the most of Manly turnovers. Murphy got his second try in the corner in the 53rd minute from the set after Manly winger Clint McGuire dropped a high bomb for 28-12. Then John went down with concussion when he got knocked out making the first tackle from the restart set to see him take no part. This was too much for the frustrated Sea Eagles to bear and prop Liam Knight was sin binned by referee Liam Nicholls for dissent. From the ensuing penalty, Bears winger Abbas Miski made sure of the two competition points with an easy try in the corner for a 32-12 lead. Levido again missed the conversion – indeed he missed his his last five shots to finish with only two from seven with the boot. Hopoate completed his hat-trick of tries with nine minutes left to get one last consolation for the Sea Eagles and close the scoring at 32-18 with Kelly’s conversion. Manly back up to play Newcastle in their catch up game against Newcastle at Brookvale Oval on Wednesday Night at 6pm, while the Bears travel to Morrie Breen Oval next Sunday to take on the Wyong Roos in their next assignment.
