WIN 38-18
The South Sydney Rabbitohs defeated the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles 38 points to 18 in front of a crowd of 10183 at Brookvale Oval tonight (Saturday). The night would see the Rabbitohs scores a total of six tries with Alex Johnston scoring his 50th and 51st NRL tries while both Robert Jennings and Robbie Farah added a Rabbitohs try next to their names. Manly were the first to add a four pointer to the scoreboard sending the ball smoothly down their backline and finding a gap on the far right side of the Rabbitohs defence. An unsuccessful conversion attempt by Dylan Walker saw Manly lead four points to nil, five minutes into the game. It wouldn’t look good for the Rabbitohs in the next ten minutes with Manly dominating the field with possession and finding the line on two more occasions. Despite a strong hold in defence by the Rabbitohs, Manly were too quick and found a gap and the line for their second try through Brian Kelly. The home side again gave their fans something to cheer about when a Cody Walker grubber was picked up by Manly’s Akuila Uate who made a break and with a clean pass off to teammate Tom Trbojevic saw Manly add their third try and extended their lead 12 points to nil. But the Rabbitohs were not giving up nor backing down. The less than ideal start was quickly squashed in the 17th minute when Souths were rewarded with their persistence with a try to Rabbitohs debutant Robert Jennings. The Rabbitohs speed and rhythm started to come together and the aggression on the field started to lift. Manly were the first to fault and Blake Green was sent to the bin after tripping Kyle Turner who was on his way to a grubber in goal from Jason Clark. It didn’t take long for the Rabbitohs to take advantage and steal the spotlight from Manly when Cody Walker found his way to the try line after faking a dummy and slipping right through Manly’s defence. The three missed conversions from Manly’s centre, Dylan Walker looked to make an impact as a second successful conversion brought the Rabbitohs score level at 12 points each. The Rabbitohs would break ahead for the first time in the match when an offload from Cody Walker fell into the arms of John Sutton who dived over the line under the uprights for his first 2017 try. The Rabbitohs led 18 points to 12 going into the sheds at halftime. The second half saw both teams ramp up the aggression but Manly would be the team to find the line first with a try to their captain, Daly Cherry-Evans. A successful conversion levelled the scores for the second time in the game, 18 points each. But not long after, an error from Manly deep in their own half saw a dropped ball picked up by an offside player rewarding Souths with a penalty. Reynolds successful penalty goal kick took his side into the lead 20 points to 18. With 13 minutes left in the game and nerves still trembling at the sight of the close scores, an individual milestone was met when Alex Johnston found himself scoring his 50th NRL try. As the clock ticked down, the Rabbitohs momentum lifted. Damien Cook made an impact, making metres and offloading to Jennings who ran the field with Robbie Farah by his side, floating it to his teammate who would score his first try with the Rabbitohs. A try scoring machine, Johnston didn’t stay at his 50th try for long picking up a well-weighted grubber by Farah and slamming the ball down for his second try for the night. Both tries were converted by Reynolds finishing off the game 38 points to 18.

U20 National Youth Holden Cup - Round 2
v Manly-Warringah, 3:15pm
LOSS 20-52
Late Changes - Hippi was trimmed 24 hours before the match. Sheppard, T.Butler, Cordtz dropped off the bench.
Round Two got underway on a beautiful day at Brookvale. Sorry, Lottoland… as the junior Rabbitohs looked to bounce back from a dramatic two point loss to the Wests Tigers in Round One. However, the Sea Eagles would prove too difficult for the young Rabbitohs to handle as they ran out 52-20 winners. Things went the way of the boys in Red & Green early as a series of penalties from the Sea Eagles saw us get the best attacking opportunity of the opening sets. However, Manly rallied in defence and stopped several clear chances from converting to points. The Rabbitohs came closest through their captain, Kalani Ili in the first ten minutes as he was held up by some desperate Manly scramble. The breakthrough would come in the 12th minute as a sweeping move to the right edge saw Rangi-Paoa Boyce cross easily in the corner. Doueihi would shoot wide with his conversion attempt, the Rabbitohs with the lead 4-0. Their lead would be short lived as Manly ground their way to our try line over the next few sets, eventually crossing next to the posts through John Tasi Tuivaiti. Tevita Funa converted and Manly would steal the lead 6-4. Tevita Funa would extend Manly’s lead after a sweeping run to the left would create a hole for the quick centre to dart through and score. He converted his own try to push Manly out to a 12-4 lead in the 25th minute. With their backs against the wall, the young Rabbitohs would lift the intensity through interchange forward Cruz Topai-Aveai who would provide some damaging runs to push the Rabbitohs up field. Unable to capitalise on their chances, the Sea Eagles would make the Rabbitohs pay as Haumole Olakau’atu forced his way over to score again in the 31st minute. Tevita Funa would convert his third attempt and see Manly lead 18-4. A penalty to the Sea Eagles just before half time would result in another two points with Tevita Funa slotting the kick from just in front of the posts. Adam Doueihi would kick start the Rabbitohs efforts in the second half, breaking the line in the 42nd minute and providing a freakish offload to Keaon Koloamatangi to score. Doueihi’s conversion attempt would be denied by the post and the scores sat at 20-8 in Manly’s favour. A bad error from the resulting kick off saw the Rabbitohs knock the ball on and concede to Tevita Funa a few plays later on the left edge. He would miss his first conversion of the day in the 47th minute, leaving the scores at 24-8. The Rabbitohs found their second try of the half shortly after in the 50th minute through Lucky Taavale – who strolled through some uncharacteristically poor defence from Manly. Doueihi converted from in front and Manly’s lead was reduced to 24-14. A Manly line break down the right edge would put them in good attacking position in the 53rd minute. The Rabbitohs would be penalised for releasing Manly’s runner late and the resulting set would see Manly cross through Tom Wright. The conversion by Funa gave Manly a 30-14 lead. Momentum swung firmly in Manly’s way when Joseph Ma’u produced a strong run from 10 metres out from our tryline which saw him crash through the Souths line and score. Funa was again accurate with the boot and gave the Silvertails a commanding 36-14 lead. Manly would add further misery to the young Rabbitohs day with another try coming through Haumole Olakau’atu – his second for the day in the 63rd minute. Funa’s conversion would be denied by the post. With 15 minutes left on the clock Josh Martin would join the party for Manly and power through the Souths line and score. Funa would convert this one and Manly would run out to 46-14. Souths would grab a consolation try in the 74th minute as Harry Leddy intercepted a Manly pass and carried it 85 metres to score. Doueihi converted easily to make it 46-20. Manly would break the 50 point mark through Amoni Tufui. Funa converted and the scores became 52-20 with only two minutes left on the clock. It wasn’t pretty for the visitors at Brookvale Oval with Manly running up a big score over the young Rabbitohs.

Reserve Grade - Intrust Super NSW Premiership Round 2
v Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles, H.E.Laybutt Field, Sun Mar 12 3:00pm
WIN 40-20
Late Changes - Jennings, Crichton, Rogers were out. Mociedreke started wing, Talakai centre, Kelly five-eighth, Tyrrell prop, Tasi second row, Murphy and Rudolf on the bench.
The North Sydney Bears have put the newly-formed Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles to the sword in Round 2 of the Intrust Super Premiership NSW, defeating their opponents 40-20 at HE Laybutt Fields. The Bears, who experienced one of the smallest player turnovers over the off season, performed as a cohesive unit against a Sea Eagles outfit still finding its feet in the competition. Co-captains Eli Levido and Brad Deitz led from the front, while George Burgess was hard to handle and Cameron Murray put forward a typical hard-working performance for North Sydney. It didn't take long for the home side to build pressure, however, with a penalty followed by an accidental North Sydney play over the sideline gifting Blacktown three successive sets. The Sea Eagles crossed the stripe off the resulting scrum through Viliame Kaveinga, with a simple right-side movement bringing the game's first points. The conversion attempt from Joey Lussick was unsuccessful and Blacktown had a 4-0 lead. The visitors looked like hitting back when Tom Burgess was held up over the line, but after 10 scoreless minutes the Bears would eventually get on the scoreboard via hooker Deitz. With Levido slotting the conversion from in front, North Sydney were up 6-4. Almost instantly, the Sea Eagles' woes were compounded when leaders Deitz and Levido combined for a classy four-pointer up the middle. The dummy-half split the Blacktown defence for a 30-metre line-break, offloading to Levido to cross under the posts - a try he converted for a 12-4 lead. Momentum had well and truly turned at HE Laybutt Fields and next up it was the Bears' big men time to shine; Cameron Murray first broke the Sea Eagles' defence through a strong run before Tom Burgess charged over two plays later for his side's third. Once again converted from in front, North Sydney led 18 points to four. Eventually the Sea Eagles got another chance to spend time in an attacking position and with a nice pass from Jackson Hastings, they made the most of it; the former Rooster offloaded to bench forward Sarafu Fatiaki, who scored to reduce the deficit to eight. The ball still looked to be in North Sydney's court and the visitors soon scored another, this time through a dangerous-looking Siosifa Talakai. Levido successfully added the extras, making the half-time score 24-10. The second stanza didn't start in ideal fashion for the Bears, who sent the kick-off out on the full, but they managed to sustain early pressure from their opponents. In the 47th minute the North Sydney side added to their advantage with a try to Sitiveni Moceidreke, thanks to a timely in-goal offload from Tautalatasi Tasi. With that converted the scoreboard read 30-10 in favour of the Bears. Cameron Murray was the next to get on the score sheet, with a hard, flat run from close to the try line drawing three defenders - but still resulting in points. From almost in front, Levido missed the conversion in his first major error, so scores remained 34 points to 10. Things went from bad to worse for the Sea Eagles, kicking the ball out on the full in the resulting restart and conceding in the next set. Five-eighth Pita Godinet attempted an optimistic intercept close to his try line but failed to take it cleanly, giving the Bears a clear overlap and allowing experienced winger Ed Murphy a try in one of his first touches since taking the field. Levido added the extras from out wide for a 40-10 score line. The Sea Eagles were having no luck and halfback Jackson Hastings appeared to set up Tyler Cassel for a try, only for the pass to be called forward. A break from Tyrell Fuimaono soon had the Bears back on the attack, but they failed to add points from that opportunity. With fatigue setting in late in the game, Godinet made the most of conditions with a 40-metre line-break and try. It left scores at 40-16. For the third time of the afternoon, the resulting kick-off landed over the sideline and it gave the home side an opportunity to reduce the deficit. Godinet fount Matthew Wright, who found Jonathan Wright in the left corner - while the conversion attempt sailed wide, it gave the Sea Eagles a slightly more respectable 40-20 scoreline at the game's conclusion.
