LOSS 9-24
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have gone down 9-24 in a tough battle against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in front of a crowd of 35,984 on Good Friday afternoon at ANZ Stadium. The Bulldogs were the first to add points for the afternoon with Kerrod Holland clearing the uprights from a penalty kick in front of goals. The Bulldogs early lead put them two points in front. The Rabbitohs were given a chance to level the scores when the Bulldogs faltered for not releasing. In true Reynolds style, he kicked the ball clean over the crossbar and as the first quarter ticked over, the scores were levelled two points each. In an outstanding magic moment, Alex Johnston tempted the Bulldogs defence, leading the side across the field before making a slick line break and accelerating 55 metres down the field to score the first four-pointer for the afternoon. Reynolds made no error with the conversion and the Rabbitohs led eight points to two. The Bulldogs were quick to respond with Josh Reynolds chasing his own well-weighted kick to slam the ball down in goals for the home team’s first try for the match. The red and green held on to a two point lead with the Bulldogs conversion swaying wide but it wasn’t long until the scores were levelled with Kerrod making up for his previous missed conversion and adding a second penalty goal to the board. As the scores looked locked for the half time siren, Reynolds pulled the Rabbitohs into the lead with a successful field goal attempt taking the Rabbitohs into a one point lead as they ran into the sheds. The second half opened up with the determination intensifying in both sides. The Rabbitohs got over the line for a second time but a no try call was made for an obstruction. The Rabbitohs continued to put pressure on the Bulldogs defensive line but failed to capitalise on their chances. A second attempt for Goodwin saw him over the line but he was held up in goal. With only a point keeping the Rabbitohs in front, the Bulldogs kept up their persistence and were rewarded in the 63rd minute breaking through and finding the line and the lead. Holland sealed the try with a successful conversion and the Bulldogs overtook the Rabbitohs 14 points to nine. The Bulldogs wouldn’t let the Rabbitohs catch up anytime soon flying over for another try with Holland adding the full six points. The Bulldogs established themselves with a comfortable 20 to nine point lead with just over 10 minutes remaining on the clock. The Rabbitohs got to the line one again but another obstruction cost them the four-pointer. The Bulldogs responded immediately and added what would be the last points for the evening through a try to Josh Morris on the far left side of the field.

LOSS 24-30

The Rabbitohs NYC side showed plenty of fight in their tight round seven loss to the 13th placed Bulldogs, going down 30-24 in a match that could’ve gone either way. The Bulldogs got us underway in our round seven NYC clash - a perfect day for footy with the mercury sitting at a comfortable 23°C and the sun shining in a blue sky. The home side had a nervy start to the contest with an early fumble by fullback Ben Cassell and a bad play the ball costing them possession on half way shortly after. However, they grew into the match at ANZ Stadium and found themselves in scoring position on several occasions. On the back of some staunch defending the Rabbitohs found their way up field to break the deadlock in the 15th minute. A curving grubber from halfback Adam Doueihi was pounced on by fullback Beau Cordtz to score. Doueihi converted and the Rabbitohs took a 6-0 lead. It would take some time but the Bulldogs would hit back through winger Kiko Manu with a sweeping move to the right that caught the Rabbitohs short in the 24th minute. Adam Keighran would convert from the sidelines to even the score 6-6. The scores wouldn’t remain tied for long as Bulldogs halfback Adam Keighran found the tryline 10 metres in from touch on the left side of the field. Keighran converted his own try and the Bulldogs would lead the contest 12-6 after 30 minutes. The Bulldogs would further increase the advantage, scoring on the left side of the field through fullback Ben Cassell in the 32nd minute. Keighran slotted his conversion to give the Bulldogs a 12 point buffer. Souths 6 – 18 Bulldogs. The Rabbitohs would snatch one back before the half through young winger Tyrone Taukamo in the 38th minute. Doueihi would convert a difficult kick from the right touchline to pull the Rabbitohs back into the contest. We’d go into the sheds with The Bulldogs leading 18-12. Harry Leddy set the tone for the second half with a heavy, try saving tackle on the much bigger Jayden Okunbor. The first 15 minutes of the second half proved poor for both teams with numerous handling making it hard for either team to establish themselves. The Rabbitohs came closest to scoring after a line break from Adam Doueihi but the Bulldogs defence scrambled well to stop the young Rabbitoh. The Rabbitohs would end the second half drought just before the 58th minute through captain Campbell Graham after a quick movement on the right. Adam Doueihi converted and the scores would become level at 18-all. The Bulldogs would regain the lead in the 61st minute after a barnstorming run by Bulldogs forward Jayden Okunbor who would score on the left edge. Halfback Adam Keighran would continue his perfect day with the boot by converting his fourth attempt to push the Bulldogs to a 24-18 lead. The Rabbitohs would fall further behind after Adam Keighran scored his second try of the day – targeting the same left edge that offered them the previous try. He’d convert another difficult kick and leave the Bulldogs with a 12 point buffer after 67 minutes. The game wasn’t over there, Josh Saunders powered through the Bulldogs defensive line in the 72nd minute to pull the Rabbitohs to within 6 points of the Bulldogs. Doueihi converted quickly and the score would sit at 30-24. The Rabbitohs would suffer a late injury to Tarquinn Butler who was carried off the field in the 75th minute - prematurely ending a solid performance from the talented second-rower. Piling on the pressure in the last 10 minutes, it wasn’t to be for the Rabbitohs under 20s side as they couldn’t find that late equaliser. Bulldogs would take the points for our round seven clash.

Reserve Grade - Intrust Super NSW Premiership Round 7
v Wyong, North Sydney Oval, Thu Apr 13 6:30pm
LOSS 6-34
Late Changes - Tyrell Fuiamono, Murray were out and Whitelaw out suspended. Siolo and Rudolf started second row, Tasi left wing, Mociedreke right wing, Neilsen right centre and Rogers on the bench.
The Wyong Roos have made a strong statement this evening by accounting for the North Sydney Bears by 34-6 at North Sydney Oval in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW. Despite a strong show of support from the Bears faithful at the club’s spiritual home, a dominant performance by Roos five-eighth, Jayden Nikorima, saw the playmaker kick seven goals from seven attempts, while Connor Watson and Chris Centrone both grabbed try-scoring doubles to help their side to a convincing victory. The Roos snared first points in part thanks to a penalty against the Bears for hands in the ruck that eventually led to a repeat set for Wyong. With the Bears desperately defending their own line, Nikorima threw a pass out to fullback Watson, who crashed over out wide. Nikorima added the extras to make it 6-0 in favour of the Roos after 10 minutes. Another penalty to Wyong shortly afterwards would see the visitors again have a throw of the dice inside Norths’ 20-metre line. But while the Roos continued to look dangerous with the ball in hand, the home-side’s defence would hold strong. With 25 minutes gone, Nikorima chanced his hand with a beautiful chip over the top in centre-field before regathering on the first bounce, only to be taken down 20 metres short of the line. But while the Bears were able to scramble to diffuse the situation, Nikorima would add an extra two points to his team’s score-card not long afterwards when a penalty was blown right in front of the sticks, bringing the score to 8-0 with 12 minutes left in the opening stanza. The Bears looked to strike back when they received two penalties in quick succession inside the Roos’ 10 metre line shortly before half-time, but despite multiple promising attacking raids, Norths were unable to finish — the Roos heading into the sheds with an eight point advantage. On the resumption, the Bears were seemingly through inside the first minute of play when Jamal Hunt broke through and only had to put the ball down. But the play was called back by the referee on the grounds of an obstruction earlier in the piece. But it would again be the Roos who would draw blood with another penalty goal to Nikorima before an energetic run from Brendan Santi saw the back-rower crash over from close-range. Nikorima again converted from out wide to make it 16-0. The Roos would pick up where they left off from their very next set, when Nikorima’s final-tackle bomb wasn’t diffused by the Bears, allowing Watson to race through and grab his second. Nikorima was again on song with the boot, putting the visitors 22 points clear. The try would briefly spark Norths into action — the Bears upping the tempo in attack with some strong charges close to the line. But the Roos were unperturbed, repelling wave after wave of red and black attack. Wyong would then turn defence into attack when Watson broke clean through the Bears defence — the fullback sprinting some 40 metres before throwing on overhead pass back inside to Chris Centrone who strolled over to score. Nikorima made it six from six with the boot to make it 28-0. With eight minutes in the match remaining, a slick backline movement saw Centrone finish up with his second of the night before Nikorima kept his goal-kicking record intact at seven from seven despite hitting the upright in his attempt. Norths would desperately try to open their scoring account late in the game, and would finally come up with a consolation try through Tautalatasi Tasi on the stroke of full-time — the winger racing over in the corner to touch down. Eli Levido converted from the touch-line to bring the final score to 34-6 in favour of the Roos.
