Dean Hawkins 2018-19 Contract Extension
4th October 2017
The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce that the Club has extended the contract of young half Dean Hawkins until at least the end of the 2019 season. Hawkins, 18, is a halfback or five-eighth who played in the South Sydney SG Ball under 18s team this season before advancing into the under 20s side mid-season, playing 17 games in the Holden Cup this year. Hawkins is a South Sydney junior from the Matraville Tigers club who took control of the Rabbitohs’ Holden Cup side, helping the team turn a 1-8 start to the season around to finish the season with 12 wins and two draws.
Rabbitohs Head Coach Anthony Seibold is happy to see another young half coming through the ranks at South Sydney. “Dean will get the opportunity to train with the NRL squad in the pre-season this year and if he shows the growth that he showed when he trained on the odd occasion with the full time squad last season then he is on the right track to develop into a fine footballer,” Coach Seibold said. “He had a very consistent season in the under 20s in 2017 and the opportunity in front of him, to train with the top squad and play under 20s and State Cup in 2018, will help his development as a player. “He’s a tough player with a great kicking game and he really took control of the under 20s side in the absence of players like Campbell Graham and Adam Doueihi throughout the season. "We’re excited to see where Dean can go and it all starts for him this pre-season.”
