WIN 21-20
South Sydney have held their nerve to break a 29-year record and stretch their winning streak to eight with a 21-20 victory over North Queensland at Barlow Park in Cairns on Sunday. A try to Lachlan Coote with nine minutes remaining enabled the Cowboys to take a four-point lead late in the game after a see-sawing contest with both sides in control at various stages of the clash. But the Rabbitohs held their nerve with an escort penalty against the Cowboys enabling Damien Cook to send Robert Jennings over in the corner to level the scores at 20-20. Bunnies playmaker Adam Reynolds had the chance to give the home side a lead before full-time but his sideline conversion attempt hit the post. Reynolds then faded a first attempt at field goal, before slotting the match-winner with a minute remaining. Two tries to the Bunnies a minute before and after half-time had halted the Cowboys' momentum after Johnathan Thurston set up North Queensland's two opening tries and kicked three goals for a 14-6 lead moments before the break. It proved a spirit-breaking period for the Cowboys with a Thurston error allowing the Rabbitohs field position to win the game. Thurston then had a final shot at field goal after the siren in a frantic finish but the attempt was well wide. The result for the Cowboys capped another heart-breaking finish in Thurston's swansong season. The cloudy weather in Cairns looked threatening all day and welcomed the players with rain as soon as they took the field at Barlow Park in otherwise humid conditions. A run-around play with Gavin Cooper allowed Thurston to place a deft kick into the hands of Antonio Winterstein for the Cowboys' opening try. But the Rabbitohs responded shortly after when Scott Bolton played the ball sideways in a horrible attempt in returning from the restart. After a couple of earlier kicks in good territory had come to no avail, Reynolds opted to put in a grubber for himself and regathered to score under the posts – the Bunker ruling Jake Granville was not impeded in the lead-up to the try. North Queensland dusted off the decision to go over three minutes later with Thurston having the ball on a string again to send Cooper in for North Queensland's second. Rabbitohs back-rower Cam Murray was ruled inside the 10 metres to enable the Cowboys to take a penalty goal and an eight-point lead. The Bunnies had the final say late in the first half with Sam Burgess offloading to Cody Walker on the halftime siren. An error at the play-the-ball from Ben Hampton immediately after the break allowed Souths to send Campbell Graham over in the corner from a swift Dane Gagai pass. Not even a Thurston effort to intercept a Rabbitohs backline movement from a scrum could spark a Cowboys comeback.
But as the game was nearing completion it was apparrent that Greg Inglis has a hand issue. It was confirmed after the match that Greg Inglis has suffered a broken thumb ruling it out of all rugby league matches for the coming 4 to 6 weeks.

In the 66th minute of the match, Clark was placed on report with a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact - Other charge, after tackling Cowboys enforcer Jason Taumalolo below the knee. The base charge for this incident is 100 points but he has a 20% loading for one prior non-similar offence in the last two years. A total charge of 190 points after you add his 70 carry over points. He has since taken the early guilty plea for a 25% reduction in base charge to 90 points. After you include his 70 carry over points this results in a charge of 160 points. He will miss one game and have 60 carry over points.

v Wyong, Morry Breen Oval, Kanwal, Sun Jun 30 3:00pm
WIN 44-22
Late Changes - Ilett is out. Turner starts lock, Rodwell on the bench. A stunning first-half onslaught powered the North Sydney Bears to a crushing 44-22 win over the Wyong Roos at Morry Breen Oval this afternoon (30 June). The Bears scored five unanswered tries in the opening 25 minutes, as they snapped a three-match losing streak and kept their Intrust Super Premiership NSW finals hopes alive. Halfback Dean Hawkins was outstanding for North Sydney, setting up multiple tries with his boot and pulling the strings with aplomb. The Bears' forward pack were also fantastic, dominating from the outset. The result marks Wyong's only loss since round 11, leaving last year's grand finalists teetering in ninth place, while the Bears jump to 10th position. North Sydney registered first points of the afternoon in the 8th minute when centre Tarquinn Butler pounced on a grubber. Hawkins converted the try to give the Bears a 6-nil advantage. It wasn't long before they scored again. The Bears launched a towering bomb, from which their chasers were able to tap the ball backwards. It fortuitously landed with Butler who motored across the line for his double. The conversion was successful and North Sydney had a commanding buffer. Hawkins' kicking game continued to cause Wyong headaches following the restart; this time a pin-point punt sat beautifully in the in-goal area to gain the Bears a repeat set. The pressure proved too much for the Roos' defence to withstand, as Bears five-eighth Connor Tracey sliced through from close range. Hawkins added the extra two points to put the visitors ahead by 18. Just when it looked like the Roos had earned a reprieve, a mistake in their 'red-zone' handed possession back to North Sydney. It would prove costly, with Bears winger Curtis Johnson scoring off a nifty grubber from Mawene Hiroti. And the tries kept coming. Jesse Arthurs got onto the scoresheet following a short-side raid down the right edge. Hawkins was on target with the conversion, pushing North Sydney's lead to 28. Wyong managed to bring some joy to the passionate supporters that turned out, with left winger Nick O'Meley touching down minutes before halftime. But the Bears began the second stanza much like they did the first. Another inch-perfect grubber from Hawkins allowed Tracey to snare his brace, ending any chance of a Wyong comeback in the process. Scintillating play then gave North Sydney another converted try. Fullback Viliami Kaveinga made a long break from well within his own half and offloaded to Hiroti for a fantastic four-pointer. Next it was Ky Rodwell's turn to snatch a try, proving too strong for the tired Wyong defence. Hawkins nailed his sixth conversion to put the Bears ahead by 40. Brendan Frei salvaged some pride for the Roos when he crashed over, before O'Meley completed his double to add further respectability to the score-line. Wyong speedster Reece Robinson plucked an errant North Sydney pass out of the air on his own line and dashed 90 metres untouched, as the home side sustained a mini-revival. Brad Keighran kicked his third goal, reducing the margin to 22 – the way it would stay until the final hooter.

v Canterbury-Bankstown, Belmore Sports Ground, Sat Jun 30 12:45pm
DRAW 14-14
Late Changes - Davis-Welsh, Potter and Ianeta Baker are out. McGrady starts fullback, Doyle on the wing, Moale on the bench. A hat-trick from winger Taleena Simon has helped the South Sydney Rabbitohs secure a 14-all draw against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs today at Belmore Sports Ground. It was a tough affair with the Rabbitohs heavily matched against a Bulldogs side with nothing to lose. It was an excellent start by the Red and Green with a sweeping backline move from a scrum allowing Simon the space down the sideline to burn her markers around the outside for the first try of the afternoon in the 3rd minute. Halfback Maddie Studdon was unable to convert the try leaving the Rabbitohs with an early 4-0 lead. However, the Bulldogs' reply was swift as they marched their way downfield with powerful running through their renowned forward pack. With the Rabbitohs stretched the Bulldogs took advantage through the fleet-footed Amarah Shillingsworth, who stepped her way through the defensive line to put the Bulldogs on the board. With the conversion from right in front, it was easy work for goal taker Candice Clay, who put the Blue and Whites in front 6-4 with 15 minutes gone. The match would then turn into an arm wrestle as either team struggled to assert the dominance on proceedings. Again it was star winger Simon who broke the deadlock right on half-time as she powered her way over in the corner. Once again, the conversion was a tough task for Studdon, who's attempt fell just short, which left the Rabbitohs with an 8-6 lead at half-time. The second half started like the first with fast running and hard hitting. As the half wore on errors began to creep in for the Rabbitohs as they afforded Bulldogs a way back into the match. The Bulldogs would capitalise on the Red and Green's ill-discipline taking an easy two points from in front to level the scores at 8-all with 20 minutes to go. The penalty seemed to kick the Rabbitohs back into gear as they upped the intensity and put the pressure back on their opponents. However, it was the Bulldogs that took the front against the run the of play. After forcing a line drop out the Rabbitohs were unable to regather a short drop out giving the Bulldogs possession back. With the forward momentum and then a penalty the Bulldogs punished Souths for the error, with forward Clay crashing over from close range. Clay would slot the extras to give her side a 14-8 lead with just 10 minutes remaining. With the Rabbitohs starring down the barrel of a second straight loss, they once again went to their number one attacking player to provide them with the spark they needed and the electric winger provided it. Receiving the ball in space inside her own half Simon ducked, weaved and then strode away from the chasing defenders running close to 60 metres to score an incredible solo try under the posts. Studdon nailed her first conversion of the afternoon from directly in front to level the scores at 14-all. With just seconds remaining the Rabbitohs had one last chance to steal the victory but unfortunately fullback Sharon McGrady just couldn't keep a hold of the ball with the line begging.
