LOSS 12-13 (Golden Point)
Manly have snapped South Sydney’s three-match winning streak after skipper Daly Cherry-Evans stepped up with a golden point field goal for a 13-12 win in front of a delirious Lottoland crowd on Saturday. It was the second golden point match of the weekend – and ended similarly to Penrith’s 9-8 victory 24 hours earlier with the winning field goal coming from 40 metres out by the halfback. But the Sea Eagles joy will be short-lived. They lost fullback Tom Trbojevic early in the second half with a recurrence of a left hamstring strain. Trbojevic had just taken a kick on the full from Adam Reynolds and was about two meters into his run upfield, when he just stopped and grabbed the top of his leg. Manly could have gone into the foetal position but they scored the next try through hooker Manase Fainu to grab the lead back 12-10. The constant cheering of the Lottoland faithful must have been ringing in Adam Reynolds' ears. He was off target with a routine penalty in the 61st minute that would have drawn the Rabbitohs level – his third miss of the afternoon. But Reynolds did kick one with eight minutes left on the clock to lock things up 12-12. However, the miscued kicks kept coming. Reynolds missed field goals in the 80th and 84th minutes, which would have secured a fourth victory on the trot. Reynolds has so often been the Rabbitohs hero with match-winning field goals. But this time it was Cherry-Evans’ turn. It was the 19th one-pointer of his career and the 30-year-old celebrates 200 NRL games next weekend against Newcastle. Manly did it tough in the second half. At one stage only Api Koroosau was on the bench – and he was nursing a sore wrist. He did return to the field, but alongside Trbojevic in the sheds, Corey Waddell and Martin Taupau were undergoing HIA tests. Waddell didn’t make it back. They also didn’t help themselves with a heavy error count: 12 in the first half, nine in the second, before extra time was called. Meantime, Joel Thompson was placed on report for allegedly tripping Corey Allan in the 72nd minute. The visitors held a slim 10-6 lead at halftime. Possession running at 69 per cent early meant Manly chanced their hand. Jake Trbojevic was held up in the fifth minute and Elgey grounded it cleanly, but bunker replays showed a knock-on by Joel Thompson in the lead-up. Still it didn’t take all that long – 12th minute to be exact – before Trbojevic crossed for his sixth try in his past three games at Lottoland. He used the show-and-go before a burst of speed got him around Sam Burgess. Cherry-Evans converted and the Sea Eagles were squawking 6-0. But after four sets on the Manly line, the pressure became too much and Sam Burgess went over in the 22nd and it was all level. Cody Walker did more damage with a darting run down the left side before passing to Campbell Graham. He pirouetted out of one tackle and then beat a second to score his fifth try in four games.

Reserve Grade - Canterbury NSW Premiership Round 4
v Blacktown, Brookvale Oval, Sat Apr 6 12:45pm
LOSS 12-32
Late Changes - Gagan was out. Hiroti started centre, O'Connor on the wing, Peoples second row and Johnson the bench. Lachlan Croker has returned to Rugby League for the first time since suffering an ACL injury in Round 8 last year but it was Kelepi Tanginoa who stole the show in Blacktown’s 32-12 convincing victory against South Sydney. The Rabbitohs entered the game undefeated while Blacktown had no wins on the board, but previous form went out the window at Lottoland as the Sea Eagles turned it on. Croker started the game with confidence when he executed a perfect kick behind the Rabbitohs’ defenders for his winger Sam Smith to win the race and score the first try of the afternoon. Jade Anderson constantly posed a threat at fullback for Blacktown and he popped up in the perfect time and place when Tanginoa got his arm free close to the line and threw and offload for the fullback to collect and stroll over. Tanginoa was in on the action again when he threw a nice pass to put Dane Aukafolau into space, which then allowed him to give it to Abbas Miski who had plenty of work to do before scoring Blacktown’s third consecutive try. The final 20 minutes of the first half was looking to be completely scoreless until Abbas Miski ran the length in the final minute against the run of play. The Rabbitohs found themselves in good field position and a long ball was floated out to Leigh Higgins’ wing and he attempted to put an attacking kick through, but the ball went straight into the hands of Miski who never looked like getting chased down. Tanginoa deserved his name on the scoresheet and he opened the second half with a strong effort when he ran onto a beautiful Zach Dockar-Clay pass and powered through the Rabbitohs’ defenders to make the score 26-0. Andy Saunders powered through from short range shortly afterwards, before Souths finally broke the duck when Connor Tracey burst into a hole off a nice Keaon Koloamatangi pass close to the line. Souths went back-to-back with a perfectly executed scrum play that was finished off by Dylan O’Connor, which was the final scoring play of the match.

U20 NSW Jersey Flegg Cup - Round 3
v Manly-Warringah, Laybutt Feild, Sat Apr 6 1:00pm
WIN 50-4
Late Changes - Puru was out. The South Sydney Rabbitohs' Jersey Flegg (20s) side have come away with a comprehensive 50-10 victory over the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in their first win of the season. Having come away with two draws to start their year, the Jersey Flegg side came out firing in their round 4 encounter with the Sea Eagles. New face Ky Rodwell, who had previously featured for the Canterbury Cup side, was the first to crash over in the seventh minute. Hooker Joshua Cook, who scored a double in his return last weekend, also added to his season tally by going over just six minutes later. Manly struck back to bring the deficit back to six, but tries to Rodwell and centre Tallis Angianga just before half-time saw the Cardinal and Myrtle up 22-4 at the break. A flurry of tries came in a fifteen-minute period, with outside backs Kane Allan and Nic Mougios going over to score, as well as Angianga and Cook bagging their doubles. Their opponents bagged a consolation try, but a Mougios double - the fourth for the day - brought the scores to 50 in a commanding performance, with halfback Blake Taaffe bringing up a personal tally of fourteen points with seven goals to his name.
