WIN 22-18
The Rabbitohs had an answer to Penrith's game plan, holding off a late-surging Panthers side to claim the two competition points. The Rabbitohs opened the scoring through Kyle Turner, who crashed over the top of Nathan Cleary to give the Bunnies an early 4-0 lead. A miracle offload from Dane Gagai, who had no right to pop the ball out given the treatment he was receiving from the Panthers defenders, saw Corey Allan stroll over for the easiest of four points for a 10-0 lead after 24 minutes. The Panthers were rewarded for their toil early in the second half when James Maloney crossed the line courtesy of a Reagan Campbell-Gillard offload to reduce the deficit to just two points in front of a crowd of 14,931. Despite dominating proceedings for the opening 15 minutes of the second half, the Panthers were unable to pile on more points and instead allowed the Rabbitohs to reclaim the ascendancy. South Sydney five-eighth Cody Walker, who is mounting a strong case to replace Maloney as the NSW Blues No.6, shrugged out of a Nathan Cleary tackle to push the Rabbitohs out to 16-8 lead with 23 minutes remaining. Maloney wasn't about to let his opposite number steal the show, putting in a well-timed grubber to allow Dallin Watene-Zelezniak to bag Penrith's second try of the night and reduce the margin to 16-12. But in the battle of the two No.6's, Walker got the last laugh when he sliced through some feeble Panthers defence to set up Dane Gagai and push the deficit to 10 points with six minutes on the clock. An act of pure strength gave the Panthers a glimmer of hope, with Viliame Kikau monstering his way over multiple Rabbitohs defenders to make it a four-point game with four minutes to go.

Reserve Grade - Canterbury NSW Premiership Round 7
v Penrith, 5:45pm
LOSS 18-20
Late Changes - Team is 1-17 with Ta'avale dropping off the bench. The South Sydney Rabbitohs Canterbury Cup side have conceded their second loss of the season in their Round 7 clash against the Penrith Panthers. Late tries to hooker and captain Billy Brittain, Dean Britt and Mawene Hiroti were not enough as the Panthers took advantage of a 12-nil halftime advantage to win 20-18. The Rabbitohs were bolstered by the return of forward Dean Britt, replacing injured front rower Rhys Kennedy to make his start in the no.10 jersey, while the rest of the side from their previous week's win over the Bulldogs remained intact. But it was the Panthers who struck first, with winger Brian Too crossing over in the 25th minute after an early arm wrestle. With fullback Dylan Edwards converting, their opponents held a 6-nil lead early on. With either side unable to capitalise upon opportunities throughout the next ten minutes, the home side suddenly struck a late blow with second rower William Burns scoring with just minutes remaining in the first half. With the conversion, the Panthers took a 12-nil lead going into the break. And that try proved to be worthy for Penrith's momentum, as Burns bagged his double after just four minutes of the second stanza. After being starved of scoring opportunities all game, the Red and Green came to life with Brittain scoring his side's first try of the match in the 62nd minute. With winger Mawene Hiroti converting the goal, the Rabbitohs were back in it. But just minutes later it was Burns who picked up his hat-trick to put the Panthers up fourteen points ahead with just over ten minutes to go. However, the Rabbitohs refused to give up, with the side showing plenty of intent as Britt and Hiroti both scored tries in the last five minutes. Unfortunately, it was to no avail, as the Panthers held on to record a 20-18 victory.

U20 NSW Jersey Flegg Cup - Round 6
v Penrith, St Marys Leagues Stadium, Sat Apr 27 2:00pm
LOSS 0-42
Late Changes - Er and Mougios were out. Frasca starts on the wing and Zampech at centre. The South Sydney Rabbitohs Jersey Flegg side have suffered their first defeat of the season, going down to the Penrith Panthers 42-nil at St Marys Leagues Stadium. From the outset the Panthers dominated, scoring four tries in the first 25 minutes to set up a commanding 26-nil halftime advantage. Despite the best efforts of the Red and Green, the Panthers were just too strong on the day scoring another three tries to take home a commanding 42-nil victory.

LOSS 30-36
Late Changes - Lavaki and Smirnotis dropped off the bench. A number of players withdrew to play schoolboy rugby commitments. The South Sydney Rabbitohs Harold Matthews season has ended after a 36-30 defeat to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the Preliminary Final. It was a brave effort from the young Rabbitohs, who clawed their way back from a 22-12 halftime deficit to come within four points of their opponents. But the mountain was just too high to climb as they suffered just their second defeat of the year to end their season one match away from the Grand Final. It was a fast start from the Rabbitohs, with a familiar sight as captain and fullback Joseph Suaalii scored the first try of the match after just three minutes of play. But the Bulldogs, coming off momentum from their win against the Balmain Tigers last week, scored four tries in ten minutes to eventually take a 22-12 halftime lead. Not to be deterred though, the Rabbitohs closed the gap with the first try of the second stanza going to William Taliai, but their opponents brought back a ten-point advantage just a couple of minutes later. As the match wore on, the determination and class of the Red and Green shone through as hooker Ratu Vesikula scored a second-half double, but all hopes were dashed as a penalty goal to the Bulldogs on the bell extended the lead to six, with their opponents.

v North Sydney, Erskineville Oval, Sun Apr 28 1:30pm
LOSS 6-16
Late Changes - Stojanovska and Waters were out. Kelly starts half, Matapuku at centre, Vunakece second row with Young and Kennedy on the bench. The South Sydney Rabbitohs' Harvey Norman Women's Premiership side have been defeated by the North Sydney Bears 16-6 in a defiant performance at Erskineville Oval. Playing their first match in a fortnight, the Rabbitohs arrived on South Sydney home soil at the hallowed Erskineville Oval to take on rivals the North Sydney Bears on a sunny afternoon. And it was the Red and Green who got on the board first through five-eighth Candice Clay, who claimed her second try of the season in the ninth minute of the match. Converting her own try, the efforts of Clay saw the Rabbitohs up 6-nil after ten minutes. The remainder of the half became an arm-wrestle, with neither side able to capitalise on opportunities, until the Bears struck a minute before halftime through halfback Sabrina Green. With the conversion, the teams headed into the sheds in a deadlock. But the second half was all North Sydney, as the Bears scored soon after the resumption in the 36th minute. With the game in the balance, the Rabbitohs Women continued to play with grit and determination, but a try to the Bears with just over ten minutes left sealed the result, with their opponents eventually claiming a 16-6 victory.
