WIN 18-14 (GP)
The South Sydney Rabbitohs & the Wests Tigers would have given us an all-time classic with the Rabbitohs sealing the match in miraculous fashion through a Thomas Burgess try in golden point. The Wests Tigers would save what was easily their best performance of the 2021 season for the Rabbitohs, but at the end of eighty minutes of madness, the Rabbitohs would walk away with their fifth win of the season. The match was tight early in the contest with both sides trading blows, it was the Wests Tigers who had a try-scoring opportunity early due to an Alex Johnston error, but the Rabbitohs defense was resolute and James Roberts was bundled into touch. The Rabbitohs goal-line defense was able to hold as Wests would continue to build pressure early in the half with some deft short kicking from ex Rabbitoh Adam Doueihi earning the Tigers three repeat sets in a row - before a short drop out off the boot of Latrell Mitchell would help the Rabbitohs to regain possession. The grind would continue until the 23rd minute when Cameron Murray would burst through for the opening points of the match and his first points for the season. South Sydney would come close to scoring once again in the 30th minute through their prolific left edge, with winger Alex Johnston getting across the stripe in his 150th NRL match, only to place his hand into touch just before getting the ball to the grass. The disallowed try would prove to be an early swing in momentum, with the Wests Tigers leveling the scores just a few minutes later through Daine Laurie who pounced on the ball following a David Nofoaluma kick on the back of some enterprising play from Luciano Leilua on the Wests Tigers left edge. Latrell Mitchell was placed on report for high contact on Nofoaluma as he fell after the kick during the play. Adam Doueihi's conversion was successful bringing the scores to 6 apiece. The Rabbitohs would put the ball into touch on the full on the ensuing kickoff, before continuing their resolute goal-line defense, and when the siren sounded for the half-time interval the score was locked at 6 all. The Tigers would open their account in the second half through Luke Garner following some hard running through the middle third of the park from Daine Laurie, & with Doueihi's conversion, the score was soon 12-6 to the visitors. A contreversial penalty awarded against Marshall who in theory tackled the kicker in the air, gifted the Tigers 2 points in front of posts and a 14 to 6 lead. Latrell Mitchell would provide a moment of brilliance when he managed to turn an attacking kick from the Tigers into an attacking raid by the Rabbitohs, fielding the ball just millimeters from the touchline & before streaking forty meters upfield. Wests would hang on in the ensuing set, pulling Cody Walker down short of the line, and would find the energy to defend their line in the ensuing sets. The Rabbitohs would eventually breach the Tiger's defense when Dane Gagai would cross following a line break by Cody Walker from a deft pass from front-rower Junior Tatola, & Adam Reynolds would make no mistake with the conversion bringing the scores to 14 - 12 with 12 minutes remaining in the match. It was Adam Reynolds once again who would level the scores in sensational fashion, slotting his second two-point field goal in as many weeks with five minutes left to play. Just moments later the Rabbitohs would have the opportunity to take the lead, once again from the boot of their captain Adam Reynolds, when Tigers winger Tommy Talau would commit a professional foul while defending his line. The Rabbitohs halfback would provide an uncharacteristic miss with the ensuing shot at goal, & the frantic dying moments of the match continued. With the Tigers reduced to 12 men for the final moments of regulation, both sides would have opportunities to ice the match, but where unable to finish the job before the full time siren sounded, sending the Tigers and Rabbitohs in their fourth golden point match. It was Rabbitohs prop forward Thomas Burgess who would be the man of the moment. With the Tigers defenders rushing up out of line to defend against a Reynolds fieldgoal attempt, left a gap hole in the defensive line which allowed Bugess to run 30m, scoring a barnstorming try under the post on the first set of extra time. But the drama hadn't quite ended, with the referee allowing the play to continue, assuming another Burgess dropped ball, with the Wests Tigers streaking away for what appeared to be the winning play. Upon review, the video referee would overturn the decision & award the Rabbitohs an astounding victory & seal the match as another instant classic between the two sides.

v Western Suburbs, 12:40pm
LOSS 18-42
Late Changes - Mougios is out. Sele starts prop, Hasson on the bench. The Magpies make it four on the trot against Souths Western Suburbs Magpies have secured their fourth consecutive win of the season, following a 42-18 victory against South Sydney Rabbitohs at Stadium Australia. It was a mixed bag from Magpies fullback Zac Cini early on after he made an unforced error, allowing Souths attacking field position. Despite the early mishap, Cini was able to bounce back and go over for the first try of the match. Cini was proving a handful for the Souths defence, after he created space for Kiah Cooper who went over for the Magpies second try. Jock Madden successfully converted to give the Magpies a 10-0 lead after 10 minutes. Souths found their way back into the game through second rower Trent Peoples after he sliced through a gap and scored their first try. A terrific conversion by debutant Lachlan Ilias brought Souths within four points. Magpies went in for back to back tries following a deft kick by Zach Dockar-Clay which sat up perfectly for Reece Hoffman. In the very next set, Israel Ogden found himself in open space and kicked through for Magpies halfback Jock Madden who added to an already stellar 2021 season. The determined Magpies continued their dominance as Kiah Cooper took an intercept and linked up with Jacob Liddle, who offloaded to send Edenn Rogers-Smith crashing over under the posts. It was all one way traffic in the first half as the Magpies went into the break with a 28-6 lead. The Magpies picked up where they left off in the second half, after winger Allan Fitzgibbon flew through the air and grounded the ball in the corner. Captain Troy Dargan gave Souths fans something to celebrate, after some brilliant ball running saw him cross the line. Ilias successfully converted to make the score 32-12 with 25 minutes remaining. Following back to back attacking sets, Rabbitohs winger Jaxson Paulo was able to capitalise on the pressure as he charged over to score, with Ilias converting bringing his side within 14 points. The Magpies found themselves in attacking field position after they received a penalty and Michael Chee Kam cashed in with only six minutes remaining. With the result beyond doubt, the Magpies refused to put the cue in the rack and Tom Freebairn crashed over to secure a dominant 42-18 victory for the Magpies.

v Wests-Tigers, 3:00pm
LOSS 24-28
Late Changes - Stowers started at prop, Akauloa-Laula at second row with Puru and Lovett on the bench. The Wests Tigers have held on for a four-point win against reigning champions the South Sydney Rabbitohs to continue their unbeaten run after six rounds of the Jersey Flegg Cup. As the Tigers went into the halftime break with a 12-6 advantage, it was winger Liam Scolari who scored a double early in the second half to take the game away from South Sydney. Okusitino Lui followed up with 50th-minute try on the opposite flank to give the visitors an unassailable 22-point lead. Three late tries were only a consolation for the Rabbitohs who suffered their first defeat since Round 1.

NSWRL U19 SG Ball - Preliminary Semi-Finals
(3v6) v Illawarra, Leichhardt Oval, Sat Apr 17 2:30pm
LOSS 14-46
Late Change - Leugaimafa, Teaupa and Jang were out. Kaho started fullback, Lester on the wing, R.Cook at five-eighth, Donnelly at hooker. The Rabbitohs went into their biggest game of the season with a new look spine after injuries forced the captain, halfback and fullback out of the game. THis disrupted the team significantly and the STeelers got away to a good lead in the first half, which Souths never recovered from.
