WIN 38-22
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have made it 4 wins in a row by defeating the Wests Tigers and claiming outright third place on the NRL ladder with a 38 points to 22 victory at Leichardt Oval on Sunday afternoon. The Rabbitohs ran in 5 unanswered tries in the first half, with Adam Reynolds becoming the all-time leading goalkicker for the Club, breaking a longstanding record held by legend Eric Simms. 14 Years since the Rabbitohs' last visit to Leichardt Souths wasted no time in opening their account, grabbing their first points through Taane Milne in their very first attacking set of the match, and from that point onwards it was mostly one-way traffic. Cody Walker crossed in the 8th minute following a nice kick by Alex Johnston, and they traded places for the Rabbitohs third try with Johnston pouncing on the ball following a kick from Walker. Adam Reynolds nailed both conversions to surpass Simms' record for the most goals kicked for the Rabbitohs with 803, and it appeared that he had crossed for a 4-pointer in the 26th minute after strolling through a gap in Tigers defensive line untouched, but was denied after he placed his foot on the dead ball line before placing the ball down. Alex Johnston crossed for his second a few minutes later maintaining pace in the top try-scorer race with Josh Addo-Carr on 19 tries for the season, and Campbell Graham crossed on the right side 3 minutes later bringing the score to 26 - nil at the halftime break. Adam Doueihi was the first man the breach the Rabbitohs defensive line since the first half of round 14 when he crossed after a nice ball from Luke Brookes early in the second half before Daine Laurie crossed for the Tigers second try of the game with a strong run close to the posts. The two sides went try for try-for-try this time onwards - with Campbell Graham seemingly steadying the ship for the Rabbitohs when he crossed for his second of the match following a midfield scrum, but Adam Doueihi responded quickly crossing for his second. Cameron Murray crossed for the Rabbitohs 7th before David Nofoaluma took an intercept and ran the distance shortly after to close the scoring for the afternoon.
Benji Marshall today became South Sydney's oldest player 36y 129d to play a first grade match when he came on, passing the former oldest player Jack Rayner who played until he was 36y 128d today.
