A great comeback win
It was a long time coming but we finally beat the two time premiers in a great come from behind win. But it wasnt one way traffic as we allowed the opposition to take the lead midway through the second half after a few errors and penalties. This and letting a try just before halftime are things we need to work on. But it was great to see the team refocus and pull the win out of the fire. That is 4 wins in a row as we move into the Top 4. Now off to Brisbane to take on the compeition front runners who have a new lease of life in 2023.
Another Mitchell double
Another 12 points from another two tries and 2 goals has seem Latrell Mitchell race up the NRL point scorer board as he helped Souths climb back into the contest on the weekend. One try was a classic Mitchell try as he chimmed into the line to crash over out wide. And he was also involved in a classic try saving tackle out wide. Looking forward to more of these displays as our season progresses.
Reserves Gamble pays off2 points down in the final minute of the game, Hawkins pulls off a great 40-20 kick to put Souths in a attacking position. Then a Penrith is penalised and sin binned for holding down a player and time wasting. Souths are then given a choice take the safe option and draw the game with a penalty goal. Instead they go for the win and they create the overlap against 12 men and score a great match winning try out wide to Cody Hodge. A trilling finish that allowed the team to pickup a vital two points.
Peoples retires
It was a sad day during the week when Trent Peoples hung up his boots after last season broken leg injury, needed more time to recover. He had been a great club man, finally maing his debut after being one of the best reserve grade players over the last two season. We wish him all the best as he begins life after football.
Hip Drop Tackle needs to be banned
Wrestling has turned ugly over the last few years with 2023 being the year that the hip-drop tackle needs to be removed from the game. The tactic of grabbing someone around their waste to then lift off the ground and fall on their legs, has caused a number of ankle and knee injuries in 2023. The NRL quite rightly is trying to eliminate this tackle from the game, and Souths have sufferred as Kolomatangi has a extended period o the sideline from such a tackle.
