3 in a Row
It was a tough game against last years grand finalists, but we came out of the block strong and took a 18 nil lead through some classy display. Our scrambling defence was a highlight out of the game, especially when we had to play with 12 men for 20 minutes. After our third win on a trot, we sit 5 points out of the 8 with another critical game this weekend against 8th place Manly. 10 more wins to make the finals.
AJ Greatest single club Try Scorer
All hail Alex Johnston "The Greatest One Club Try Scorer" in NSWRL/NRL history. It was a simple well worked try, with Latrell Mitchell landing the final pass, that saw Alex Johnston score out wide, to be what was his 191st first grade try. Well done Alex, a feat that will take some time for someone else to surpass.
Saldanha double
Jude Saldanha made a return to reserve grade on the week and scored a double of tries as he helped the team stay in the hut of a victory. Another player taking a bit longer to transition from U21s to reserve grade.
Le Blanc called into first grade
Its been tough year in 21s but a success has been Matt Le Blanc's return from injury. He came back in 21s. After a month he moved up into reserve grade and a month later he has been called up on the first grade bench. Good luck this weekend.
High Tackle Crackdown Backfires
On the weekend, we saw one of old referee crackdowns for a high tackle. Tackles that barely warranted a penalty, were now having players sent into the sin bin across multiple games over the weekend, with Richie Kennar our player. So as soon a teams learnt this was going on, we immediately started seeing players staying down when head contact being made. The nRL counter acted that by sending those players to a 15 min HIA assessment and clubs using this as a free interchange. Coaches are smarter than the referees and walways quickly adjust to these sort of situations.
Round 15 - Stat Attack
Statistically it was another good game this week. Completions dropped to 83% from 86% last week. Errors dropped to 9 from 8 last week. We gave away 2 penalties and 5 6-again calls from 5 last week. Looking at our left side defence - Johnston/Milne-Milne/Cook-Wighton-Arrow (1-3-5-2) was steady at 11 again this week. On the right side Gagai-Kennar-Walker-CheeKam (4-9-4-7) dropped to 24 from 17 missed tackles last week. Our worst all season. Ruck defence Moale/Burgess-Cook/Mamouzelos-Keppie/Koloamatangi-Koloamatangi/Murray/Duncan (2-2-7-5) dropped to 16 from 12 missed tackles last week.
