Jye Gray Contract Extension for 2025-26

11th April 2024

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have extended the contract of up-and-coming utility Jye Gray for two more years, until the end of season 2026 today. Gray, 20, is a livewire that is comfortable playing at fullback or in the halves, and he will make his NRL debut this Saturday against the Sharks after performing strongly in NSW Cup to start the 2024 season.

Gray joined the Rabbitohs in 2023 after playing Queensland under 19s as an 18-year-old in 2022, the same year he was named the QRL’s Mal Meninga Cup player of the year and five-eighth of the year. Originally from the Gold Coast where he represented at the junior elite levels in both Rugby League and rugby union, including playing first XV football for the Southport School, he played in the South Sydney SG Ball Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup teams in 2023 before graduating to NSW Cup and the NRL as part of the Rabbitohs’ top 30 squad this season. Gray was awarded the Rabbitohs best back award in the 2023 Jersey Flegg Cup team. Gray is a product of the Rabbitohs’ elite player development program, a program which has produced fellow Rabbitohs top 30 teammates Lachlan Ilias, Peter Mamouzelos, Tallis Duncan, Davvy Moale, Ben Lovett and Tyrone Munro over the past four years.

Gray is thrilled to be extending his career at South Sydney. "We have a great playing group here and I can’t wait to run out with the boys in my debut on the weekend. I’m really so grateful for the opportunities I have been given here at the Rabbitohs and I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else."

Rabbitohs Head of Football, Mark Ellison, says he is excited to have Gray locked in for two more seasons. "Jye is one of the young, up-and-coming stars at our Club and he we’re all excited to see him make his NRL debut this weekend. His style of play is very dangerous for opposition defences in attack, using his quicksilver pace to trouble his opponents, and he is a high-quality defender as well. We’re excited about Jye’s prospects and we’re certain our Members will enjoy watching him play in the red and green for years to come. We look forward to seeing him continue his development at our Club."
