Barwick was a oustanding South Sydney junior from Kensington, who played 3 season of junior reps with South Sydney between 1943 and 1945. He made his senior grade club and premiership debut in the 1945 Round 14 clash against Balmain at the Sports Ground. Midway through the next season he progressed to reserve grade in the 1946 Round 9 Reserve Grade clash against Western Suburbs at the Sports Ground. Then at the end of the season he made his first grade club and premiership debut in the 1946 Round 14 clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Sports Ground as a 18 year old.
Barwick was a tall second rower, who was also a keen surfer with Maroubra SLSC.
Barwick played 5 season with South Sydney between 1945 and 1949. He played 14 first grade club games with South Sydney, which included 10 first grade premiership games. Overall he played 57 senior grade career club games with South Sydney, which included 53 senior grade career premiership games.
Barwick played his final first grade club and premiership game for South Sydney in the 1948 Round 9 clash against St George at Redfern Oval. A heavy tackle resulted in a fractured pelvis which he never fully recovered from. He played out the 1949 season in Third Grade before retiring.
