Not to be confused with Coyne family Edward, Thomas and Pat from Orange. Coyne is a South Sydney junior who played with Australis and played with the South Sydney Presidents Cup team in 1911. Between 1912 and 1913 he played second grade with Redfern before playing with South Sydney Kinkora for the next 2 years between 1914 and 1915. In 1916 he comes across to play with South Sydney second grade. During 1917 Coyne married Howard Hallett's sister at Redfern. He made his 1918 South Sydney first grade premiership debut in the 1918 Round 7 clash against Newtown and the Showground.
Coyne played 4 seasons with South Sydney. He played 2 first grade premiership games for South Sydney.
Coyne played his final first grade premiership game in the 1918 Round 9 clash against Annandale at Erskineville Oval. He would continue playing lower grades in 1919.
