Three time South Sydney premiership winner in 1909, 1914 and 1918. He was also a member of the South Sydney premiership winning squad in 1908, only missing the final as he was on the 1908-09 Kangaroo Tour. He also played in the 1910 premiership final, but was sent off in the decider.
Davis a local South Sydney resident, who played lower grades for South Sydney RU, he made his first grade premiership debut in the inaugural 1908 Round 1 clash against North Sydney at Birchgrove Oval. At 21 years and 7 days on debut in 1908 he was the youngest player to debut until 1911.
Davis played 8 seasons with South Sydney. He played 73 first grade games for South Sydney, which included 65 first grade premiership games and 4 first grade cup games. He also played one short form game for South Sydney
In 1911 and 1913 Davis would be loaned to play for North Sydney and the Glebe.
Davis played 23 reprsentative games while at South Sydney between 1908 and 1912. He made his representative debut in the 1st 1908 clash between New South Wales and New Zealand at the RAS Showground. He played 7 games for New South Wales against New Zealand and the NZ Maori. David made his international debut for Australia against New Zealand when he came on to replace a injured Arthur Hennessy in the 1st Test at the RAS Showground. He was then selected for the inaugural 1908-09 Kangaroo Tour of England. The citzens of Waterloo gave the local lad a gold medal to commemorate his selection on the pioneer Kangaroo tour of England. He got his nickname "Barra" or "Barrow" for his efforts in stoking the boiler room of the RMS Macedonia to keep fit on the trip to England. He almost stayed in England in March 1909, but eventually decided to come home. He played 10 games for Australia, which included 4 internationals. At the end of 1909 he played for the Kangaroo's against the Wallabies.
Davis would play his last game for South Sydney in the 1919 Round 1 clash against Western Suburbs at the RAS Showground.
