Delaney joined South Sydney late in his career. He originated in the country at Narrabri and had played for St. George, University and Eastern Suburbs before he returned once again to the country. He made his South Sydney senior grade debut in the Round 2 1937 Reserve Grade clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at the Sydney Cricket Ground. 6 weeks late he made his first grade premiership debut in the Round 7 clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
It would be his one and only first grade apperance and his final senior grade game for South Sydney. He only played 5 senior grade premiership games, in his brief career at South Sydney.
