Grant is a 3 time South Sydney premiership winner in 1968, 1970 and 1971, who also played in the 1969 premiership decider with South Sydney. He also won the 1968 Australian Club Championship with South Sydney and the 1968 Australiasian Club Championship with South Sydney. He is a 1 time reserve grade premiership winner with South Sydney in 1966, who also played in the 1967 reserve grade premiership decider with South Sydney. Grant is a 2 time pre-season cup winner with South Sydney in 1969 and 1972, and was also a member of the 1966 pre-season cup winning squad with South Sydney.
Grant was a junior from Balmain who played with the Glebe Police Boys Club. He came through the Balmain junior system playing Flegg and Presidents Cup before playing first grade. South Sydney paid a $400 transfer fee to bring him across. He made his South Sydney first grade club and cup debut in the 1966 Pre-Season Cup semi-final against Balmain at the Sports Ground. He made his senior grade premiership debut for South Sydney in the 1966 Round 1 Reserve Grade clash against Parramatta at Cumberland Oval. Mid season he was called up to make his first grade premiership debut for South Sydney in the 1966 Round 10 clash against Parramatta at Redfern Oval coming on as a replacement.
Grant was a very good halfback, who moves the ball well, and had a ability of getting the team going. He was also a deteremined defender.
Grant played 10 seasons with South Sydney between 1966 and 1975. He played 182 first grade club games for South Sydney which included 136 first grade premiership games and 43 first grade cup games for South Sydney. Overall he played 243 senior grade career club games for South Sydney which included 197 senior grade career premiership games for South Sydney. He scored 129 senior grade club points for South Sydney from 33 tries and 15 fieldgoals.
Grant made his captaincy debut for South Sydney in the 1970 Round 18 clash against St George at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He would captain South Sydney on 23 occassions in first grade, which included 15 first grade premiership games. Overall he would captain South Sydney on 36 occassions in senior grade club games.
Grant made his representative debut while at South Sydney in 1970 Sydney City Seconds clash NSW Country Seconds at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He made his international debut for Australia against Great Britian in the 1970 Third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He was a member of the 1971 Kangaroo tour of New Zealand. Grant played 7 representative matches while at South Sydney which included 4 apperances for Australia and 1 for New South Wales. He was selected in the 1972 Rugby League World Cup squad for Australia but did not play.
In 1966 Grant won the all grade South Sydney best and fairest player. In 1968 he was South Sydney's First Grade Best and Fairest player. He won the man of match in the 1970 Grand Final and was later awarded the Clive Churchill Medal in retrospective. In 1971 he was named as the Rugby League Week player of the year. In 1993 he was awarded Life Membership of the South Sydney DRLFC. Then in 2004 he was named in the South Sydney Dream Team (greatest ever players between 1908 and 2004) at halfback.
Grant played his final senior grade and first grade club and premiership game for South Sydney when he came off the bench in the 1975 Round 22 clash against Manly-Warringah at Brookvale Oval.
Bob Grant is one of the greatest ever South Sydney halfbacks.
