Hanrahan was a NSW Country and New South Wales representative from the NSW South Coast, who had stints with University and Easts before coming to South Sydney late in his career.
Hanrahan made his South Sydney senior grade and first grade premiership debut in Round 1 1935 against University at the Sports Ground.
Hanrahan played only one season at South Sydney. He played 8 first grade club games, including 7 premiership first grade games. He would play 13 senior grade games, including 12 premiership senior grade games.
Hanrahan played his last first grade premiership game for South Sydney in Round 7 against St George at Earl Park, before playing the rest of the season in reserve grade, where he captained the reserve grade team on four occassions.
