Hill is a member of the 1989 U21 South Sydney Premiership winning squad.
Hill is a South Sydney junior from Zetland. He played Junior reps with South Sydney between 1986 and 1989. He captained the 1989 U17 South Sydney SG Ball team to the semi-finals. In 1987 he was selected in the Australian U15's Merit squad. He was called up to make his South Sydney senior grade debut in the 1988 U21s at 16 years of age, bypassing the U19s. Before stepping up the following year in 1989 to play reserve grade. In Round 1 1990 he was called on from the bench to make his South Sydney first grade debut against Canterbury-Bankstown at the Sydney Football Stadium at 18 years of age, scoring a try on debut.
Hill was a boom South Sydney junior who played lock in his early career. He was a noted lariken.
Hill played 3 seasons with South Sydney. He played 9 first grade premiership games for South Sydney. He played 26 senior grade premiership games with South Sydney.
A representative level, Hill played for Sydney City U17s and New South Wales U17s in 1989, before being selected for New South Wales U21s in 1990.
Upon leaving South Sydney in 1991, Hill became the test case when the Rugby League Players Association legally challenged the newly introduced RL draft. The court case was initially upheld but won on appeal to overturn the Draft process which forced a player to go to a club not of his choice.
Hill would go on to play with Eastern Suburbs, Western Suburbs and Manly-Warringah. Playing for New South Wales Origin and Australia after leaving South Sydney.
In 2004, he failed in an attempt in coming back to South Sydney when he suffered a groin injury in the pre-season before playing a game, and then immediately retired.
